Thirty years on, the Stalybridge Festival Committee continues to provide their annual Carnival for the people of Stalybridge and surrounding towns.
In 1980 the Stalybridge Festival Committee were invited to Armentieres, Stalybridge's twin town in Northen France and we formed a strong bond of friendship with the Committee of their carnival, the Fete des Nieulles.

Born out of a desire by the LNWR to quadruple its tracks between Stalybridge and Huddersfield, the Loop line was a second best to the laying of an extra pair of tracks alongside the old route, a patent impossibility owing to the lack of space on the western side of the Tame valley.
