Although unification of systems was expected to occur quickly, and a federal postmaster general was appointed, the process was delayed for several years; the stamps of each colony were not recognized by other colonies until 1910, and postal rates only became uniform throughout Australia on 1 May 1911.
Kangaroo and Map stamps were reprinted several times: in 1915 with first the "wide crown and narrow A" watermark, then the "narrow crown and narrow A"; in 1929 with the "multiple small crown and A" watermark, and higher values in two colors; in 1932 with the "multiple small crown and C of A" watermark.

In the stamp collecting hobby, envelopes are called "covers" and such usages of stamps on these covers are important to millions of collectors.

 SOSCC, POSTAL STATIONERY ARTICLE
When the postal authority of a country produces stationery (envelopes, postal cards, aerogrammes, etc.) with a printed stamps (indicia) designed to indicate payment the appropriate postage, those items fall into the category of "postal stationery." These stationery items are absolutely suitable for philatelic collecting purposes.
Stamp catalogues included postal stationery up to about 1920 when the publishers decided there was not enough interest in postal stationery to continue to list it.
Postal stationery related to the topic of stamps on stamps is a relatively small part of SOS collecting, but a fascinating part nevertheless.

The use of perforation began in 1860; unfortunately for collectors, the stamps were very closely spaced, the perforating process not well-controlled, and it is unusual to find stamps from before 1899 where the perforation does not touch or cut into the design on one or more sides.
A 2½d stamp depicting an allegorical figure of Australia appeared in 1890, while ½d, 7½d, and 12½d values were produced in 1891 as surcharges on existing stamps.
In 1913 the stamps of New South Wales were superseded by those of Australia; see stamps and postal history of Australia.

An unusual SOSUG is the 50 sen value in the souvenir sheet of four diamond-shaped stamps originally issued by Malaysia in 1996 to observe 50 years of organized Malaysian philately and issued in a slightly revised form, #645e, in 1997, with the addition of an inscription to commemorate MALPEX'97, Figure 17.
While the SOS shown on the stamp in Figure 18 is actually a Type SY (pseudo stamp) SUG, the issue has the unique feature of SUG's in the margins of the pane as well.

The answer lies partly due to boredom with stamp collecting, partly to the cost of filling the few spaces in my personal collection, and partly to my exposure in 1999 to an International stamp exhibition in Melbourne (Australia 99), where Social Philately was introduced as an experimental class of exhibiting.
Like many stamp collectors, I had accumulated a disorganized group of Australian covers, and in the mid 90's I added the postmarks of the Australian Colonies and States to my collection.
The journal editor recognized that the cover was of limited importance in regards to Postal History, but of much greater interest in regards to Social Philately.
