When the postal authority of a country produces stationery (envelopes, postal cards, aerogrammes, etc.) with a printed stamps (indicia) designed to indicate payment the appropriate postage, those items fall into the category of "postal stationery." These stationery items are absolutely suitable for philatelic collecting purposes.
Stamp catalogues included postal stationery up to about 1920 when the publishers decided there was not enough interest in postal stationery to continue to list it.
Postal stationery related to the topic of stamps on stamps is a relatively small part of SOS collecting, but a fascinating part nevertheless.

One of my hobbies is to study and collect Postage Stamps and Postal History of Italy and Italian States (and of the pre-adhesive periods of my interest as well).
I believed the circular date stamps on the last two Airmails of the serie were false, before I found a clue about the denomination of this village in Latium (Lazio) in the stamp at bottom right in the same scan.
The postage stamps are tied to the cover front by three strikes of the single circle date stamp with hours of 'GENOVA' (Italy), Sardinian type, in fl dated '4 NOV 62 2S' (November 4, 1862 at two o'clock in the afternoon...

 Stamps and postal history - Von Thurn und Taxis
Ten years later a postal agreement was signed between the family Von Thurn und Taxis and Charles V. This meant that postal transport to and from Verona, Rome and Naples in Italy were added to the network.
At the summit of power the family employed 20.000 mail-boys and the family monopolised postal transport from the Baltic Sea to the Street of Gibraltar.
Between 1850 and 1867 stamps were issued to be used on mail transported by the Thurn and Taxis family, but in 1867 the family had to sell the postal rights as a result of supporting the loosing party during the war between Prussia and Austria.
