Javier filled in admirably for Lenny Dykstra, who would be on the bench for the rest of the season with a hamstring strain and a hand injury.
Javier signed a two-year contract for $2.1 million with the San Francisco Giants in December 1995 with an opportunity to be the regular centerfielder, but as luck would have it, spent much of 1996 on the disabled list.
Javier was traded to the Houston Astros in August 1999, as Houston began to stockpile possible outfielders for its postseason run with four of their outfielders, including Moises Alou and Richard Hidalgo, on the DL.

Javier hit well in the postseason, ranking second on the team in playoff batting average behind Ichiro Suzuki.
That spring, Piniella reportedly told Javier that, with his defensive skills, if he hit no worse than.250, he'd be a big-leaguer for 15 years.
Instead, he was just Stan Javier, more noted in baseball circles for his last name than his first.

Stan Javier came from good baseball bloodlines: His father, Julian, was a star second baseman with the St. Louis Cardinals from 1960 to 1971.
Never a power hitter, Javier was highly regarded for his speed, defense, and versatility.
Javier went to the World Series twice while with the Oakland Athletics, earning a ring with the team that won the earthquake-interrupted Series of 1989.

The fact that I had just Javier to back up Cameron also was probably the major factor in forcing me to trade with Keith, as I needed a little more flexibility in CF than I originally planned, as I hadn’t planned on Cameron sucking so bad.
He became a pinch-steal only guy, and even that value was low, as he had used up 12 of his allotted 18 attempts in the first half of the season.
He wasn't a star, but he was a integral player on 5 teams that went to the playoffs, and has 2 rings to show for it.

Stan Javier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
His father, Julián Javier, was a second baseman for the Cardinals and named him for his teammate and close friend Stan Musial.
Javier was a talented player and a classic fourth outfielder; someone who can give a club good defense, blazing speed, and a switch-hitting bat with decent average, but who cannot sustain his play over a full season.
In his 17-year career, Javier batted.269 with 57 home runs, 246 RBI, and 246 stolen bases in 1763 games.

Stan Javier gets a very high score for similarity to Paskert through his current age, 37, which corresponds to the moment after Paskert suffered his worst season.
Anyway, Paskert was more valuable than Javier by a long shot, and maybe more valuable than Dave Martinez at his best, because he achieved his similar statistics when hits and runs were more valuable than in Javier's and Martinez' time.
With the glove, Paskert was considered a fine centerfielder, like Javier in his prime, I suppose.

What made my jaw go through the floor was that someone at ESPN saw fit to include a helpful key at the bottom that indicated the father’s name was listed first in each pairing.
This suggests that someone at the network decided that a reasonable number of fans would look at the grouping “Julian Javier, 1964 and 1967 Cardinals; Stan Javier, 1989 Athletics” and wonder if perhaps Stan, inspired by his son Javier’s accomplishments of 20-25 years earlier, subsequently decided to take up professional baseball himself.
It was the equivalent of the “cape does not enable user to fly” warning label on a Halloween superhero costume.
