Standard Grade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Standard Grade courses are taken over the 3rd and 4th years of a student's secondary schooling.
The Standard Grade replaced the old O-Grade qualification, and was phased in from the late-1980s until the early-1990s.
The Standard Grade system is now being slowly phased out in favour of the Scottish Qualifications Authority's Higher Still system, as many, students and teachers alike, feel that the jump from Standard Grade to Higher is too difficult, particularly in subjects such as English.

Grade (education) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
A grade in education can mean either a teacher's evaluation of a student's work or a student's level of educational progress, usually one grade per year (often denoted by an ordinal number, such as the "3rd Grade" or the "12th Grade").
Grading varies greatly from teacher to teacher and tends to be entirely subjective even for courses that lend themselves to objective marking such as mathematics and applied sciences.
Teachers in grade schools and high schools are also allowed to record individual exam results with grades such as "3+" or "5-" or "3/4" which indicate varying ambiguities, but final grades at the end of the year need to be one of the basic five.

 Indiana's Academic Standards & Resources
This first standard draws portraits of science and technology that emphasize their roles in the scientific endeavor and reveal some of the similarities and connections between them.
This standard focuses on two principle subjects: the structure of the universe and the major processes that have shaped the planet Earth, and the concepts with which science describes the physical world in general - organized under the headings of Matter and Energy and Forces of Nature.
Through the study of these events, students understand that new ideas are limited by the context in which they are conceived, that these ideas are often rejected by the scientific establishment, that these ideas sometimes spring from unexpected findings, and that they grow or transform slowly through the contributions of many different investigators.

STANDARD grades, the mainstay of Scottish schooling for 20 years, appeared doomed last night after education minister Peter Peacock admitted there were "serious questions" over the future of the qualification.
The decline of the Standard grade cannot be blamed on Scotland’s falling population, because the number of 15 to 19-year-olds has remained steady at around 156,000 over the past six years.
The Standard grade was introduced to deal with concerns that too many young people were leaving Scottish schools at the age of 16 with few or no qualifications.
