The company was renamed as The Triumph Motor Company (1945) Ltd.
William Lyons used the Standard 9 chassis in 1930 with bodies by Swallow to produce the SS, eventually to become Jaguar.
Standard engines were also used in some Jaguars up to 1948 and the Phase 1 Vanguard unit was used in the Morgan Plus-Four.

Of greater significance was, in 1945, the purchase arranged by Sir John Black of the Triumph Motor Company, which was in receivership, for £75,000.
The company was eventually taken over in 1960 by Leyland Motors Ltd who paid £20 million and the last Standard was produced in the UK 1963.

The fortunes of The Standard Motor Company were mixed to say the least.
By 1924 the company had a share of the market comparable to Austin, but by the late 1920s profits had fallen dramatically due to heavy reinvestment, a failed export contract and poor sales of the larger cars.
The quality of Standard running gear may have been a major factor which attracted William Lyons to use the smaller chassis and engines to produce up-market saloon cars, initially in the early '30's with Swallow bodywork, and later with his own body styling.

The Standard name appeared on cars from 1903 to 1967, although some of the companies which originally built Standard cars under license in the Indian subcontinent are still producing vehicles badged as Standard.
The oldest surviving Standard is a Roi de Belges tourer from 1907 and that is housed in the Museum of British Road Transport (an excellent museum dedicated to British marques, in the centre of Conventry and with no entry charge).
The Standard Swallow carried an "SS" badge, and from this the SS1 sportscar was developed, then came the SS2 which used less Standard components.

Standard Motor Products was, at this time, selling all of its output to the replacement market, through automotive-parts distributors, for use by repair shops, service stations, and related customers.
Standard Motor Products also acquired, in 1999, Lemark Auto Accessories Ltd., a British-based supplier of wire sets, and a Texas-based unit of Mark IV Industries, Inc. that was manufacturing and distributing fan clutches and oil coolers.
In 1999 Standard Motor Products relocated two of its wire and cable operations, one in Dallas and the other in Bradenton, Florida, to a new facility in Reynosa, Mexico, which focused on assembly and packaging of the economic wire sets, while the premium line continued to be manufactured in Edwardsville.

The company hit financial problems however and in 1936 the Triumph bicycle and motorcycle businesses were sold, the latter to to Jack Sangster of Ariel to become Triumph Engineering Co. Ltd..
In December 1960 the company was bought by Leyland Motors Ltd with Donald Stokes becoming chairman of the Standard Triumph division in 1963.
