  Understanding modern motors and controllers.
Standard motors are rated for continuous duty; that is, the load is relatively constant for long periods of time.
The motor leads, on the other hand, are permitted a higher current-carrying capacity for a given AWG size than equivalent conductors used in branch circuit wiring because they are exposed to circulating air within the motor.
Motors for use in hazardous locations must be marked with an identification number that indicates the operating temperature range.

Although standard three-phase motors are used in most adjustable frequency drive applications, motors should not generally be selected, sized and applied in AF applications as if they were to be operated from 60 Hz sine wave power.
The curves used may not accurately predict the motor’s capability because the motor at hand may be not be the same as the motor for which the curve was developed.
Designers of motors and AF drives have long known that that it was possible to design motors with features and capabilities that would make them significantly superior to standard motors in adjustable speed applications.

Also, in accordance with NEMA standards, the table covers "Open Motors" and "Enclosed Motors." The values given are "nominal full-load efficiencies," which are obtained from the average efficiency of a population of motors of duplicate design as determined by NEMA Standard MG 1-1987.
On the other hand, a motor built to "standard specifications" but applied to a special application, such as a fire-pump motor that rarely runs, may not be exempt.
One is the "Motor Challenge" operation, which consists of manufacturers, industrials, distributors, and service firms whose function is to inform, educate, and train users of the benefits of energy-efficient motors and systems.

 Motors
Motor Efficiency is the output of the motor divided by the electrical input to the motor, usually expressed as a percentage.power or work output is input less losses.
a machine with an induction motor performs three operations in its operating cycle resuling into motor loading of 25%, 40% and 80%; in such cases permanent delta to star conversion is not possible.
In many cases, though the initial cost of energy efficienct motor is 15 to 20% higher than the standard motor, the simple payback period is less due to the savings.

Standard Motor Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Standard Motor Company was founded in Coventry, England in 1903 by Reginald Walter Maudslay (1871-1934).
Of greater significance was, in 1945, the purchase arranged by Sir John Black of the Triumph Motor Company, which was in receivership, for £75,000.
In 1970, Standard in India split with British Leyland, and introduced a four-door version of the Herald called the Standard Gazel in 1971, using the same 948 cm³ engine.

As the population of EE Motors increases the initial cost will come down and may be available at the same cost as a standard motor in the near future.
For new purchase decisions, the simple payback on the incremental cost of a continuously operated energy efficient motor can be recovered through energy savings from few months to 2 years depending on the hours of use and efficiency of replaced motors and tariff.

The wound rotor motors were left in place due to outage time limitations with the intent to later replace them with inverter duty rated ones.
The existing motors were very rugged, had a very low failure rate, and were interchangeable with the motor used in other installations that were not being rehabilitated at the same time.
If the motor is disassembled and the rings shorted together in a misguided effort to eliminate the "failure prone" brushes, the curve is crunched up close to a Design-A and the performance just wasn't acceptable for our application.

technologies: a special tooth-surface machining technology to remove cutting marks of 1 to 2 µm from the surface of the motor shaft teeth, an optimized quiet-running design that considers the circular speed of the motor while maintaining its strength, and a high-accuracy assembly technology that ensures precision at micron levels.
The motor's considerable strength has resulted from the use of a rigid case, a proprietary side-panel construction and an optimized gear design.
The high-strength design of the V Series is made evident through its maximum permissible torque, which has been increased up to three times* the level of the GN type gearhead, and two times the level of the GU type gearhead.
