	ASIS&T 2006 - ImageCLEF and ImageCLEFmed: Toward standard test collections for image storage and retrieval research
		Whether researchers are working on the development of a taxonomy or a thesaurus for an image collection or testing a content based image retrieval algorithm, a standard test collection is invaluable if their research results are to have any wider impact.
		There is a need for standard image test collections in order to address the disparity in image research, in terms of materials (images) used, and compare research results across studies.
		The main purpose of this panel is to sensitize the image research community in general and ASISandT’s SIG/VIS () in particular with respect to the image retrieval evaluations and encourage researchers to make an effort in adopting standard image collections for their future research.

	JOT: Journal of Object Technology - Synthetic Image Sequence Compression, Douglas Lyon
		This is computed by subtracting the original image from the quantized image, squaring the resulting error pixels, summing their color components, then dividing by the total number of pixels.
		As this can change from pixel to pixel, and image to image, one method for computing bit rate is to measure the image (or image sequence) file size, in bits, then divide by the total number of pixels.
		On the other hand, if the original image is used as the start image, the output for the first image is almost identical to the initial image, for a single frame, and the SNR for such an image is 33 dB.

		Image compression algorithms are traditionally tested on a well-known standard image, so that ready comparisons can be made between different algorithms.
		The accepted standard in the image processing community is the image Lenna (also known as Lena).
		For the standard test image the new LenPEG 3 compresses the image so efficiently that data storage space is actually freed on the computer right up to the entire capacity of the storage devices.

	Evaluation of Teleradiology Image Quality Using a SMPTE Test Pattern
		Because the SMPTE image thus generated was distorted and not representative of CT images routinely sent, it was excluded from further analysis (Figure 2).
		Images generated from the SMPTE transparency film by digitization were compressed and transmitted via the hospital-based teleradiology system and reviewed on the home workstation.

	BBC Test Cards
		The replacement for test card E was this, a modified version of Test Card C. It was used on BBC 2 from its birth in 1964 until colour was introduced in 1967 and Test Card F took over.
		Test Card J replaced TCF, both sport a new centre image, rescanned from the original photgraphic work and showing much more of the picture.
		Test Card J has been broadcast on BBC2, Test Card W was shown on "Have I Got News For You" and on News 24 during the BBC Power Failure on 20th June 2000.

		At some point, the original color image needed to be converted to grayscale.

		A test image was made showing a deck, some trees, some objects in shadow, and a white stuffed animal in full sun.
		This image was converted to 16-bit linear tiff and then with the photoshop shadow tool increase the shadow levels 3 times, with a setting of 100, then 100, then 50.
		The original 16-bit image, the lowest values had a value of 12 with a standard deviation in an 11x11 pixel box of 12 (in photoshop) (24 with a standard deviation of 24 in ImagesPLus).

	FoE Downloads
		This database is itself a subset of the Corel image database.
		We used a subset of the test section of the Berkeley Segmentation Database to evaluate the denoising performance of the trained FoE model.

	The RS232 Standard
		It was thought that a standard was needed first to ensure reliable communication, and second to enable the interconnection of equipment produced by different manufacturers, thereby fostering the benefits of mass production and competition.
		If the full EIA232 standard is implemented as defined, the equipment at the far end of the connection is named the DTE device (Data Terminal Equipment, usually a computer or terminal), has a male DB25 connector, and utilizes 22 of the 25 available pins for signals or ground.

	The Epson 870/1270 Orange Shift Paper Test Site
