He is deputy chairman of the House Standing Committee on Institutions, Merit and the Commissioner for Administration (Ombudsman) and a member of the House Standing Committees on Crime, on European Affairs and on Legal Affairs.
At the parliamentary elections of 27 May 2001 he was elected Member of the House of Representatives standing as an A.K.E.L. - Left - New Forces candidate in the Limassol constituency.
He has been a member of the A.K.E.L. party since 1985.

 Lobbying and Intergroups: EP Study PANA W-5/rev. - RULES ON LOBBYING AND INTERGROUPS IN THE NATIONAL PARLIAMENTS OF THE MEMBER STATES
Study groups (intergroups in the sense understood in the European Parliament) are set up by decision of the Bureau, after considering the opinion of the standing committee concerned (Commission de Tutelle or supervising committee), to which the intergroup is linked in administrative terms.
Several national parliaments apply a system similar to that of the European Parliament, issuing access cards or passes of variable duration, as and when requested by members of parliament or political groups, which allow the holders to establish contacts and/or gain access to certain parts of parliament buildings and/or to attend public meetings.
In most of the national parliaments, practice and the rules applied allow committees to listen to the opinions of persons or organizations from outside parliament, in particular through public hearings, where this procedure is considered necessary

Ordinary standing committees do not have names but are rererred to simply as Standing Committee A, B, C, and so on; a new set of members is appointed to them to consider each Bill.
In the House of Lords, besides the Appeal and Appellate Committees, in which the bulk of the House's judicial work is transacted, there are two major select committees, along with several sub-committees, on the European Community and on Science and Technology.
When the Labour Party is in office, a parliamentary committee, half of whose members are elected and half of whom are government representatives, acts as a channel of communication between the Government and its backbenchers in both Houses.

The Bundestag (lower house of parliament) gains much of its power through the use of standing committees which work on and modify proposed legislation, often working with multi-party support on particular reforms, and liaising directly with cabinet ministries to influence the running of government.
Although the Bundestag is not as powerful as the British parliament, it does include a wide range of types of members, including civil servants given leave from their duties, as well as leaders from the union movement and business men who have decided to run for office (Roskin 1992, p162).
In a June 2000 visit to the Baltic states, Schroeder promised aid to close down an old-style nuclear reactor in Lithuania, and also promised full support for the efforts of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia to become member of the European Union.

The Seminar was attended by Chairmen from 11 EU member state parliamentary committees and Mr Michel Rocard, Chairman of the European Parliament Development and Cooperation Committee, and discussions were lively and interesting, rectifying a long-standing lack of communication between EU member states at a parliamentary level.
The session began with an address from Mr George Foulkes MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for International Development.
The afternoon session concentrated on the co-ordination of bilateral aid efforts.

The Knesset, Israel's legislative authority, is a 120-member unicameral parliament which operates in plenary session and through 12 standing committees.
Pilots interested in flying their own planes to Israel should provide the Israel Airports Authority with all mandatory information at least 48 hours in advance of the ETA - via cable, AFTN message, telex or fax - and await clearance before commencing the flight.
