At the time of Schauder's studies the chair of theoretical physics was for a few years temporarily occupied by an experimental physicist Stanislaw Loria (1883-1958), who probably would not have attracted the attention of the mathematically minded Schauder.
Other leading members of the school were Stanislaw Mazur, Wladyslaw Orlicz, Stefan Kaczmarz, and, somewhat after, Stanislaw Ulam and Marek Kac.
Specialists began to develop in different fields: Mazur worked in linear methods of summability, Auerbach in differential geometry, Schauder in partial differential equations, Kaczmarz and Orlicz in orthogonal series, Nikliborc in celestial mechanics and figures of equilibrium; to mention only a few examples.

The final example of a polynomial on an infinite-dimensional Hilbert space, constructed by me in response to some experts suggesting an alternative interpretation of one of Mazur's questions, provides a counter-example to all those interpretations simultaneously.
The examples were contructed in the course of the past year or two, and I am only offering this talk now that the results have been finally OK'ed by the specialists and my paper accepted for publication.

Computer science has been systematically developed at the Warsaw University since the 1960s.
At the early stage, the emerging branch of research received encouragement from the great mathematicians, the successors of the Polish mathematical school: Kazimierz Kuratowski, Stanislaw Mazur, Hugo Steinhaus, and Helena Rasiowa.
Mathematics, and especially mathematical logic, always had a strong influence on the research carried on at the university.

During this period, his interests in topological dynamics and fixed points developed and he was able to solve a series of long-standing problems in that area and in the more familiar territory of Banach and enveloping algebras, two dating back to Stanislaw Mazur's 1935 Scottish Book.
He had also been promoted to reader, so re-attaining the seniority he had when he left the fSU.
