Stapleton is a neighborhood in northeastern Staten Island in New York City in the United States.
Stapleton is one of the older waterfront neighborhoods of the borough, built in the 1830s on land once owned by the Vanderbilt family.
In 1983, Secretary of the Navy John Lehman selected Stapleton to be the Homeport for a naval unit headed by the Battleship Iowa, as part of the dispersal of the Navy during a military build up ordered by President Ronald Reagan.

The operation of the original Staten Island Railroad was from Cranford Junction, NJ to St. George, Staten Island via the North Shore line, and then on to Tottenville or South Beach.
Just past the south end of the station, there is a spur that formerly served the press building of the Staten Island Advance (the last 'boro daily' in the city) and is now used as a storage spur for ballast cars.
Oakwood Heights, the last station to be grade separated (1965, open cut) has a stationhouse at the north end and a pedestrian bridge at the south end.

I don't think rezoning of Staten Island should be done by Manhattan or Queens or Brooklyn based people, it should be done and I think it could be done in rather short ordr by Staten Islanders, I call this borough empowerment.
I believe we should have a Staten Island landmarks commission, why does it only have to be the city of New York in Mahnattan looking to designate properties that this borough believes ought to be preserved, or that you as the owner of a property wants to have preserved.
My son Brit is a graduate of the College of Staten Island and Hunter; he's got a job but he got that not because of his ability to market the degree he got from the university.
