Star Fleet Universe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Star Fleet Universe is the variant of the Star Trek fictional universe as detailed in the series of tactical and strategic interstellar wargames from Amarillo Design Bureau Inc. and used as reference for the Star Fleet Command series of computer games.
It draws from the material from the original and animated series of Star Trek as well as from other sources, such as The Star Trek Star Fleet Technical Manual, and includes a substantial amount of new races and technologies, such as the Hydran Kingdoms, the Interstellar Concordium and the Andromedans.
The Star Fleet Command games draw on this universe considerably, yet maintain a number of elements not found in the original Star Fleet Universe, such as movie-era ships and the Meskeen race for the ISC.

Strategy Planet - Review - Star Trek: Star Fleet Command   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-07)
Visually, SFC is a mixed bag; craft are well modeled and detailed, but their movement doesn't seem quite convincing enough, partially due to the fact that the camera is primarily focused either on the tail of your craft or the bearing of your currently targeted ship.
The menu systems, although true to the Star Trek style (and individual to each of the available races in SFC) are not quite as intuitive as they should be, due to small icon size and hard to decipher icons.
What's more, SFC makes a great change from the usual RTS title; its pace of play and game mechanics are refreshingly different, and its focus on the small details makes for an enjoyable change from the usual macro-management playing style found in a lot of other Real Time Strategy games.

Similar to the earlier games in the SFC franchise Star Trek Starfleet Command III allows gamers to optimize their ship and allocate power to their ship's systems for different types of strategies such as hit-and-run maneuvers, ambushes or direct assaults.
However, Star Trek Starfleet Command III simplifies this process by introducing a new interface for system management that reduces the "micromanagement" of starship control, and allows players to focus on combat.
Star Trek Starfleet Command III also pushes the boundary of the genre by incorporating RPG elements into the experience.

Star Trek: Starfleet Command is a game of tactical starship combat set in an expanded version of the original Star Trek universe.
It uses the popular Star Fleet Battles board game as its foundation - a proven winner among strategy games - which has the practical advantage that the developers will not have to spend thousands of hours testing a complex new battle system in order to determine whether the core game system is solid.
In Starfleet Command, the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Gorns, Lyrans, and Hydrans are engaged in a fierce struggle of diplomacy and military might, a contest that can be affected by the actions of a single starship captain.
