A* search algorithm - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In computer science, A* (pronounced "Eh star") is a graph search algorithm that finds a path from a given initial node to a given goal node (or one passing a given goal test).
If you do a breadth-first search like Dijkstra's Algorithm dictates, you would search all points within a fixed circular radius, gradually expanding this circle to search intersections farther and farther away from your starting point.
When A* terminates its search, it by definition has found a path whose actual cost is lower than the estimated cost of any path through any open node.

Filmtracks: Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (James Horner)
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock: (James Horner) Shock and dismay had overwhelmed the nucleus of Star Trek fans in 1982; Spock was dead, and a beloved fixture of the television show and first two films was gone.
Before even Star Trek II could be finished, the potential uproar of such an outcome was realized by the series' producers, and the bulk of the third film was devoted to bringing the character back to life.
The theme for Spock and the Vulcans occupies a significant role in the score; their mysticism is accentuated by a synthetic aiding of the orchestra in order to create a religious ambience for the Katra ritual that occurs at the end of the film.

Whether you believe the star of Bethlehem that heralds the birth of Jesus Christ in the Book of Matthew was a real heavenly occurrence, or simply an invention of the early church, is ultimately a matter of faith.
The star of Bethlehem is really part of a larger celestial poem that begins at Christ's birth and concludes at the cross.
The 90-minute presentation builds a case that the star of Bethlehem described in the Bible's book of Matthew was a real occurrence -- and a divine signal heralding the birth of Jesus Christ.

The darkest side of the deal comes with a visit to one of Larisa's former proteges (Olga Drozdova), a star who has lost her voice and ended up in a mental hospital with delusions of a career return.
The link between her state and the drug-fueled antics of another, still-working performer (Lolita Milyavskaya, who, like many of the others who appear in cameos, is a real-life music star) may be understated, but the feeling remains strong that there's a fine line between stardom and insanity.
Slava's trials in both recording and photography studios convince Larisa that she has talent, but in the brutal jargon of the industry, she is seen as an image-driven "project for the regions." The teenager herself doesn't fall for the repetitive three-chord-tune culture of the pop around her, sticking up for a more heartfelt approach.

The A* search algorithm (pronounced "eigh star") is a graph search algorithm that finds a path from a given initial node to a given goal node (or one passing a given goal test).
It employs a "heuristic estimate" which ranks each node by an estimate of the best route that goes through that node.
A* provably considers fewer nodes than any other admissible search algorithm, provided that the alternative algorithm does not have a more accurate heuristic estimate.

CBS announced Wednesday that it'll air a prime-time version of ''Star Search,'' the syndicated variety talent competition that was a kitschy favorite during its 1983-95 run and provided early exposure for such varied celebrities as Britney Spears, Dennis Miller, and Jenny Jones.
The initial run of the new ''Star Search'' will be nine weeks and will premiere in midseason.
Unlike on the original ''Star Search,'' where winners kept returning every week until they lost to newcomers, the competition would be conducted tournament style, with winners from different weeks competing against each other and a winner-take-all finale at the end of the series' initial run.
