Star Trek fans shouldn't be alone in experiencing the game's exciting story-driven single-player campaign that pits the Voyager crew against Klingon scavengers, the Borg menace, and other sinister forces - as well as its solid multiplayer mode.
Elite Force is consistently action-packed, but nevertheless, it features a variety of settings that will challenge and impress even some of the most experienced first-person shooter enthusiasts.
Elite Force even has several scenes in between the main combat missions in which you're aboard the Voyager to recuperate, rearm yourself, and discuss the situation with your crew.

Elite Force II is a first-person shooter that puts you in the middle of the action, watching the events in the story unfold through Munro’s eyes.
While Elite Force II is a sequel to the original Star Trek Voyager game, it no longer bears the name “Voyager” as the show ended in 2001 when the ship finally returned to Federation space after spending six years in the far-flung Delta Quadrant.
Star Trek away teams have come a long way from the nameless, red-shirted guys who bought the farm on missions during the original show’s TV run.

Elite Force was given rave reviews upon its release--high marks belying the fact that the game never really met with popular approval at the cash register so the release of an expansion pack and an upcoming sequel (based on the same Quake III technology) almost makes sense despite its limited market appeal.
In Elite Force they move and fire well (though their weapons do only a fraction of the damage that yours do) sometimes employing a variety of weapons, themselves, which is adds to the visual appeal of the effects, at least.
To Elite Force's credit, they all manage to get on the elevator without colliding, but this is because prior to getting on, they all freeze in place and slowly walk, one at a time, to take their place on the elevator.

The story had to be engaging and reminiscent of what a Voyager episode would be, and we had to make sure our story had a lot of depth and interest for the player, to give them the feeling that they were partaking in an episode of the show.
Star Trek was no exception, and challenged us not only to create a beautiful gaming environment but also to create it in a likeness that is known worldwide.
To create a Voyager game that resembles what you would see in a TV episode, we had to create a working spaceship filled with its busy crew, and make it believable enough so players would feel like they are in a real place.

As with all Star Trek manifestations, the team is made of a mainly human roster with a token alien to give the feel of being more sci-fi.

Each member of Voyager's cast is voiced by the actors from the TV series (Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine is the one exception.) When you fire a weapon it is the correct sound and an exact match to the show.

Star Trek is, undoubtedly, the best long-term sci-fi adventure programme on the television to date.
As any good fan of Star Trek (known as “Trekkies”) would know, the Borg are unable to see you if you are motionless; they will not attack you unless provoked (you shoot them first), and can create a programme so that they are immune to your weapon(s).
The aim of Star Trek: Voyager Elite Force would then be to not fire your weapon unless there is no alternate (such as travelling through ventilation shafts or unlocking a sealed door) or you enjoy shooting things.

Inside Mac Games Review: Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force
Suffice it to say that Elite Force is fundamentally a 3D shooter, but it breaks new ground by featuring detailed characters with discernible personality traits and excellent animation, and it also includes a strong storyline which you follow as you play through the game and, to a limited degree, affect.
Elite Force is an officially-sanctioned part of the Star Trek universe, and has had a lot of work put into it by most of the regular Voyager actors and many members of the TV show’s production team, as well as all the usual game designers and programmers.

I have always thought that approach sets up a product for failure with an almost implicit, “Of course not.” Where “Star Trek” games have disappointed in the past was in the translation of the characters and their significance to the events that surround them.
The situation is custom-made for the elite team, which is sent on a series of missions inside the other ships to collect information, gather supplies and untangle a deepening mystery in an attempt to escape.

Gamasutra - Features - "Postmortem: Raven Software's Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force" [02.07.01]
Their goals from the beginning were to create a broad selection of games and show the gaming community that Activision could take the Star Trek brand and make high-quality games with it, better than other publishers had in the past.
This was much easier than we thought it would be, and the Elite Force, or the Hazard Team as we called them, actually seemed to make more sense as a by-product of Voyager's situation.
We knew we had to walk a fine line blending a shooter and a Star Trek experience if we were going to both make a successful game and overcome people's perceptions that Star Trek games are not good games.

Star Trek isn't usually the kind of subject you would bring up in a pub when surrounded by your friends, cheers and merry thoughts turn sour, eyes gawp at your face as you mutter the immortal name through now strained lips.
