After the cliffhanger ending of the second episode, Star Wars was back in 1983 with the final chapter, Return of the Jedi.
Recapturing the original tone of the first movie and moving away from the darker elements of the second sequel, the film dealt with friendship, companionship, love, and triumph over insurmountable odds but the central theme was redemption.
Another welcome returnee wasn't even a character, The Death Star was back and it would take the entire Rebel fleet to defeat it this time, which means only one thing, one heck of a mammoth space battle in the final act.

DVDork.com - Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi Review
Jedi is arguably the most conventional and "up" of the three movies, and if you thought that Darth Vader telling Luke he was Luke’s father was the big shock, then you haven’t seen what Jedi brings to the table.
Now that the first three have been done, all that’s left to complete are Episodes 7-9, and after Episode 6, where you were either related to someone, in love with them, or some casualty of the final war, there’s a difficult challenge there to get mileage out of three more movies.
However, this comes from the mind of your mainstream Star Wars fan, so we’ll see what occurs, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that, if in fact an Episode VII does come to fruition, it may disappoint more than any of Episodes 1-3 did (or will).

IGN: Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (Limited Edition) Review
When Lucas announced after some reluctance that his namesake company would finally release the original versions of the first three Star Wars movies, unencumbered by CGI changes and digital upgrades, many (including yours truly) were rightfully thrilled: finally the time had come for Lucas to recognize his fans' wishes.
In comparison to Empire and especially Star Wars, Return may not feature as many changes - its special effects were remarkably sophisticated in comparison to its predecessors - but those changes are far more noticeable.
In particular, the decision to feature a big-time musical number at Jabba's palace entitled "Jedi Rocks" is the most offensive of the additions, especially since it's significantly worse than "Lapti Nek," the original tune used during this sequence, which did not feature a camera-addressing muppet.
