Star wars, depicting as it does a universe of high technology, technological and cultural developement, and extreme multi-culture (all those aliens) is an innately sci-fi universe, and one of the defining works of space opera.
Therefore, if I were a moderator, and somebody started a Star Wars thread in fantasy, using the justification that it is set in the past, I'd move it.
i am a avid star wars fan and im honest about it, it is a fantasy in a sci fi setting, lets take a look at the particulars that define the series.

This is a good introductory set to role-playing in the Star Wars setting "for two or more players" (i'd advise for three or more) "ages 10 and up" (i'd advise that at least one, to be the gamesmaster (or gamesmistress), be twelve or older) who want to start playing the game together.
Star Wars Novels[link not yet live] aside from the three original films' novelisations.
These are not directly linked to either rpg, but may be of use for background detail and descriptions - as well as enjoyable as adventure stories in their own right.

 West End Games' Star Wars RPG
It is not overly detailed, but good for the sort of adventure-driven scenarios to which the Star Wars universe lends itself.
The technique here was truly innovative, sufficiently so that some thirteen years after the first edition of Star Wars introduced it, White Wolf stole it for their own RPGs.
One of the great things about the Star Wars series is that, while the jedi are great, there are enough cool characters who aren't jedi that players will want to play other things too.

Beyond that, the players I am running the Revised SW rpg in are avid d20 haters and despised the old rules, but they are all raving about the new "fixed" rules.
The Star Wars universe is really good and when put together with the D20 RPG system it is phenominal.

The Star Wars Encyclopedia is the essential guide to every detail of the history, planets, vehicles, politics, aliens, and weapons described in countless books, comics, stories, and (of course) movies.
Ever since the first Guide to the Star Wars Universe was published in 1984, there have been many reference books written about the characters, weapons, spacecraft, fauna, flora, and worlds of that "galaxy far, far away...." Raymond Velasco's first Guide had precious little to go on back in '84.
I'm a big fan of George Lucas' Star Wars work, but this is an expensive edition dealing all the novels written on his idea, and doesn't cover anything about Episodes I, II and III.

The D20 system as it's called is also what powers the new Call of Cthulhu and Star Wars RPGs.
And although I can take an occasional fantasy RPG, I'm much more of a sci-fi kinda guy, so today I picked up the Star Wars Roleplaying Revised Book.
Running in at 380 hardcover fully-coloured pages it's quite a nice book, but the price is pretty damn ridiculous as well (400 danish kroners, which is about 54 Euro).

I really liked Fallout...and I think that making force powers into a "skill" pop-up and having them like in Fallout (with the Percentage instead of having them like spells) would be a good idea.
I also think that alot could be learned by other RPGs based on Fallout..and the new Fallout: Tactics Demo.
and the skill system...if the star wars rpg uses skill systems..

No, not too much information has been released about the Star Wars RPG (at least, not that I've seen).
Yeah, I know the Cube is the least likely platform for it to actually be developed for (unless they do it for multiple platforms), but it's just the one I'm voting for, just in case that counts for anything.

Also -if you wish to keep your Star Wars experience pure, avert your eyes - the campaign here uses a lot of not-star wars characters, such as wrestlers, folks from Doctor Who and Hellraiser, and so on.
Not a true Star Wars page, but a decent fantasy/D&D like page using the D6 system.
