  Editorial - SWFA Issue #3, February 2000
An absolute canon is an inclusion of all personal, all subjective perspectives on canon, thus the only point of view that can withstand scrutiny from all angles, from the most rabid continuity fan to the most exclusive.
It is especially dangerous to Star Wars continuity when an author working within the mythos harbors this attitude of canon and apocrypha, for he or she is the one with the power to shape the universe, so to speak.
In the name of equality, Star Wars authors must bear the burden of objectivity; in their case, there can be no distinction between good and bad, old and new when it comes to inclusion.

Star Wars   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Star Wars is the name of the science fantasy movie, literary franchise, and series of video games based on the ideas of writer/director George Lucas, which consist of numerous prequels, sequels, and literary adaptations.
A notable feature of the Star Wars films is that they portray a world full of grime and technology that looks like it has been used for years, not the sleek, futuristic world typical of earlier science fiction films.
Many fans of the original Star Wars movies reject the literary works of the Expanded Universe, and insist only the films or statements George Lucas has made interpreting his own works, can be accepted as canonical.

Star Wars canon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When the Star Wars series reagained popularity in 1991 with the publication of Timothy Zahn's enormously popular Heir to the Empire and his eventual Thrawn Trilogy, Lucasfilm Ltd. decided something had to be done to organize the increasingly large collection of media which chronicled the Star Wars universe.
So, it was decided that a system of canon would be developed which would organize the materials into what was and wasn't fit for the Star Wars story.

While there's been never-ending discussion on whether or not "Episode I" is a worthy movie to be included in the "Star Wars" canon...what can't be argued is the fact that the Pod Race scene from the film lends itself to spawn a videogame.
Overall if you're a Star Wars fan, chances are you've already owned this title on at least one platform...the Dreamcast version as expected is the best represenation of the experience available (in the home).

They don't particularly care to let the public know what is or isn't canon, because as far as they're concerned, "canon" only matters insofar as their staff writers know what they have to stay faithful to when they write new material.
In short, nothing is canon in Star Trek but the TV shows and movies, and even some of the material in the TV shows and movies might not be considered canon.
Star Trek's continuity policy is very narrow, encompassing only the TV shows and movies (and not even all of those), while Lucasfilm's continuity policy is fairly broad, encompassing all of the movies and most of the other licensed material as well.

Unlike the Star Trek novels, each of which is basically a universe unto itself that's based on one or more of the Star Trek series, the Star Wars EU storylines were intended to flow with one another.
However, the makers of the EU know that they are not creating Lucas-level Star Wars canon, even if their works are canon by the terms of LLP's official continuity policy and are influenced by their perception of Lucas's desires.

Star Wars Galaxies lets you create a character by choosing from male or female versions of eight different Star Wars races, including humans and wookiees, as well as the fish-faced mon calamari, the bug-eyed rodians, and more.
Star Wars Galaxies was designed to make all the starting professions essential to the game, basically because brawlers, marksmen, and scouts--the obvious starting choices for many players--need medics, entertainers, and artisans to heal them and make them better weapons and armor.
For example, an entertainer's purpose in Star Wars Galaxies is to cure fighting classes of their battle fatigue and their mental weariness, which are essentially gameplay contrivances that force characters to head back to town after they've been out fighting for a while.
