Latest 'Star Wars' score is an emotional adventure - The Boston Globe
There seems to be general agreement that ''Revenge of the Sith" is the best film in the ''Star Wars" prequel trilogy, and fans of Williams's scores are arguing all over the Internet about where to place this one among the others.
What Lucas does not say is that the music often tells the story more clearly and in greater depth than the filmmaking does; the music's emotional resonances reach further than the dialogue and the acting do.
The music in ''Revenge" also ranges more widely than in the previous scores, scooping up ancient (chanting reminiscent of Tibetan monks as Chancellor Palpatine weaves his web of temptation) and modern (a full panoply of electronic effects, not for ''futuristic" reasons but to extend the timbral resources of the orchestra).

Star Wars music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Star Wars is often credited as heralding the beginning of a revival of grand symphonic scores in the late 1970s.
More than other Star Wars themes, the March has attained an iconic status in the Western consciousness as a general "evil theme", and as such is used to portray power at public events, sometimes seriously, sometimes with tongue in cheek (as in sporting events).

Star Wars is eerily reminiscent of The Ring, so much so, in fact, that i have seen at least one production of die Die Valkyrie (at Covent Garden), tha was consciously modeled on Lucas’ world, with the Valkyries in fl leather, studded with shining steel.
Although the rousing score he created for the Star Wars films owes a superficial debt to the swashbucklers Korngold created for the Errol Flynn films films at Warner Bros. In the thirties, Williams’ ultimate model –and korngold’s- was Richard the first.
In listening to the Star Wars music, listeners can immerse themselves in the sound of a symphony orchestra to a degree unprocedented, and in the process, they may acquire a taste for more sophisticated fare.

Filmtracks: Star Wars: A New Hope (John Williams)
With Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Superman revealed to audiences within a year's time, Williams cemented thematic orchestral works as the must-have for studios of Hollywood's Bronze Age (largely consisting of the 1980's in the last years of the pre-digital era).
This is not to say, however, that bold statements of theme in Star Wars aren't worthy of their place in history; the "Throne Room" cue alone, with its ultra-heroic brass of truly epic proportions, is a piece that remains awe-inspiring decades later, especially when heard in live concert quality.
Of the roughly 88 minutes of music that was finalized for the film, about 75 minutes appeared on this album (Star Wars had far less music recorded than the other scores in the saga).

Not surprisingly, the music describing Qui-Gon is soft and flowing, with a little bit of "spunk." I think Williams accurately described his character.
Too often the artistic elements of STAR WARS are over-looked, and the cover for this single is the perfect time to reemphasize the fact that Star Wars is also an artistic concept.
With over 150 edits and nearly 50 individual cues, STAR WARS: Symphony for a Saga was a grand sweeping view of John Williams' music from the famous opening fanfare, through the story of the Skywalker family, and ending with a grand finale.

Echo Station - Star Wars Music You Might Have Missed
Star Wars fans should recognize the label by now, for they produced not only the potentially risky soundtrack for Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, but also the television soundtracks of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.
Return of the Jedi was covered with music never before released, such as the concert adaptation of "Jabba the Hutt," "Fight with TIE Fighters," and "Darth Vader's Death," which were orchestrated directly rather than kinetically (as in the film).
The ease in which Joel McNeely assumed the mantle of Star Wars is scary, because he does it with flawless grace, as if Williams himself is channeled through him, as if he were anointed with the same oil.

If you are not familiar with the music of Stravinsky and love these tracks from the SW soundtrack that I have mentioned, I highly recommend you pick up some Stravinsky, beginning with "Rite of Spring", "Petrushka", and "Firebird".
When the "Rite of Spring" premiered, most audiences were familiar with Tchaikovsky Ballets (Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, etc.) and were appalled at the music and "sexual" choreography of "The Rite of Spring." When the ballet premiered in NYC a riot actually broke out in the audience and the performance had to be stopped.
Known best for his music to "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (Moon River springs to mind) and composer of the ever-popular "Baby Elephant Walk" Mancini is one of those great composers who manages to mainstream his movie music by giving us memorable melodies and formats (in this case: pop songs) which general audiences can appreciate.

'Star Wars' music scores become classics
Today's state-of-the-art movie music is a wild mix of pop songs, sound effects, discordant ''action'' music and the occasional brilliant melody.
Yet there were critical detractors, offended by Williams' liberally borrowing of cues from other film composers, and by the contention that ''Star Wars'' was a form of ''classical'' music.
RCA Victor recently released the first volume of ''The Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition Original Soundtrack Recordings.'' Featuring digital remastering and previously unreleased bits of music, the three separate films scores (each is a two-disc set) are lovingly packaged, with laser-etched discs and elaborate liner notes, plus some pretty forceful music.

One question that puzzles Star Wars fans is how the final film in the series, the one that follows Attack of the Clones in 2005, will end without depressing film buffs.
After all, that one concludes where the first Star Wars film begins, and when the first Star Wars film starts, the universe is in pretty bad shape.

A leitmotiv is a musical theme which represents a character or idea, a technique found most often in Operas.
