Star lifting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Star lifting is any of several hypothetical processes by which a highly advanced civilization (at least Kardashev-II) could remove a substantial portion of a star's matter in a controlled manner for other uses.
Over the course of a star's life on the main sequence this loss is usually negligible compared to the star's total mass; only at the end of a star's life when it becomes a red giant or a supernova is a large amount of material ejected.
The simplest system for star lifting would increase the rate of solar wind outflow by directly heating small regions of the star's atmosphere, using any of a number of different means to deliver energy such as microwave beams, lasers, or particle beams — whatever proved to be most efficient for the engineers of the system.

Dyson sphere - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was originally described as a system of orbiting solar power satellites meant to completely englobe a star and capture its entire energy output, although other variants on this idea have been proposed — most notedly the solid shell concept pictured at right.
Unlike the Dyson swarm, the constructs making it up are not in orbit around the star, but would be statites — satellites suspended by use of enormous light sails using radiation pressure to counteract the star's pull of gravity.
As the ratio of radiation pressure and the force of gravity from a star are constant regardless of the distance (provided the statite has an unobstructed line-of-sight to the surface of its star)

Even single stars lose mass through winds.  The effect on main-sequence evolution is negligible for the Sun but important for massive stars.  Mass loss is important on the giant branch, even more so on the asymptotic giant branch.
Many low-mass stars eject a planetary nebula.  This dynamic phenomenon is by no means as well understood as earlier evolutionary phases (even those that are quite rapid by main-sequence standards), and it is not handled by conventional evolutionary codes.  Ditto squared for supernovae.
After the helium flash, the star ends up on the horizontal branch, burning helium to carbon and oxygen in the inner core and hydrogen in a shell.  The core mass is close to 0.5 M

But various science fiction authors seem to have misinterpreted the concept to mean a solid shell enclosing the star, usually having an inhabitable surface on the inside, and this idea was so compelling that it has been the main use of the term in science fiction.

In the Star Wars universe, it’s closer to a 2.8 or 2.9, as most of the Galaxy is part of a large, decentralized, but highly inter-connected whole.
A Dyson sphere is a structure that completely surrounds the parent star, consuming all of the energy from that star.
As part of this process, the star would eventually be converted into a white dwarf, which would still give out a tremendous amount of energy and in turn live for trillions of years, rather than die out in just a few billion.

 The number 6 - GameDev.Net Discussion Forums
Of course you can draw a 6 pointed star without lifting your pen off the paper if you take a turn between the edge vertices (all nodes are 4-nodes).
that can be drawn in one go as you describe, you need stars where the number of polygon corners you count for each star edge is relatively prime to the polygon size.
the -2 is because 1 and (n-1) are not good steps to draw a star (you would draw a polygon), and the /2 is because steping k or (n-k) gives the same result.

 >Curtain-Lifting Winds Allow Rare Glimpse into Massive Star Factory (ESO Press Release 15/03)
Profiting from the cloud-ripping effect of strong stellar winds from adjacent, hot stars in a young stellar cluster at the center of the NGC 3603 complex, several objects located near a giant molecular cloud were found to be bona-fide massive protostars, only about 100,000 years old and still growing.
In fact, the processes that lead to the formation of heavy stars [1] is currently one the most contested areas in stellar astrophysics.
Such already evolved hot stars are a rich source of energetic photons and produce powerful stellar winds of elementary particles (like the "solar wind" but many times stronger) which impact on the surrounding interstellar gas and dust clouds.
