I know Starchoice is owned by Shaw and I'd like to cut all possible ties with Shaw if possible (it's a long storey), but if Starchoice provides superior service...
Since Starchoice put their new satellite up(supposedly the most powerful in the world) I have never had an interruption in service due to weather, actually we have never had an interrruption in service for any reason and we are very happy with the service.
In Canada, it is illegal to view any satellite signal that originates outside of Canada which has not been approved by the CRTC and which is not being carried by one of the major programming vendors, whether it is free or not.

Starchoice seems to have what I percieve to be a good option.
Given that Starchoice is increasing the number of HD channels it carries and making new hardware available, I propose starting a new thread on the subject.
I've been a Starchoice subscriber for years and have been completely satisfied with their service but admit that I haven't looked at Bell.

Using an Actisys IR200L blaster and slightly modified "Starchoice 405" settings (the BTV settings are wrong - you don't need to press "enter" after changing the channel, but you do need to pad it to three digits) it works fine.
Starchoice just recently rolled out brand new receivers to replace the older 305 and 405 models, and I have no idea how those work.
StarChoice has said that the dual PVR is due this spring.

Starchoice et Bell ExpressVu demandent présentement un renouvellement de leurs licences et Radio-Canada veut que le CRTC leur impose de nouvelles conditions afin de les obliger à distribuer au moins autant de stations régionales de Radio-Canada que de chaînes locales des autres réseaux canadiens.
Chez Starchoice, on dit que c'est aussi le voeu de tous les diffuseurs, mais que l'espace est limité.
Un porte-parole de Starchoice affirme que la situation sera réévaluée l'année prochaine, avec l'arrivée d'un nouveau satellite qui offrira plus d'espace.
