		If the title isn't ringing a bell, this bit of Japanese animation was released here in the early '80's as "Starblazers." Today, it's considered by many, to be the father of Anamae.
		I saw my first episode of " Starblazers " as a kid just beginning high-school...A friend sat me down and "forced" me to watch it...
		I've seen some wonderful takes on Starblazers/ Yamato around the net, And I'd love to be able to show some to you all.

	Retroland \| Starblazers
		Starblazers was one of the many Japanese cartoons that were re-edited and dubbed into English for American audiences.
		Based on the series Space Battleship Yamato, Starblazers told the story of earth's Star Force, who protected the planet from the invading armies of the distant world Gamilon, led by the evil Desslok.
		In the 1980's, Starblazers premiered new episodes that were taken from the third Japanese season of Space Battleship Yamato, but this relaunch was aborted fairly early on.

		One message of "Yamato" and "Starblazers" is that war is a sad thing where even the winners must make terrible sacrifices.

		Many now criticize this Leiji Matsumoto and Yoshinobu Nishizaki classic as being out of date, inferior to today's higher animation standards, but on a cold day in early January of 1978, I turned on to TV38, WSBK in Boston and my trip down the anime road was secured!
		The american version, renamed as Starblazers, was a soap opera set in space with illustrations and animation that overshadowed other cartoons of the day like Woody Woodpecker or the Jetsons.
		While the premise was a bit ludicrous, I mean an old WWII battleship in space??, for an impressionable eight year old this was pure magic.

		The main change as far as I'm concerned was that within a few years of Brian Bolland and Dave Gibbons getting their first commissions from DC Comics, the number of British artists and writers working for American publishers has increased tremendously.
		I only ever drew 6 Starblazers and looking back now, I could have done a lot more, but I used to 'take a break' after each one to do other work like 'Abraxas', advertising commissions and other stuff for Harrier Comics and Redfox.
		Starblazer would often allow main characters to have the same name as the writer and they also published a complete checklist of writers and artists in the final issues of the series.

		Playing the Homeworld demo brought memories of Starblazers back, and is one of the reasons I got hooked on the game.

		Of all the supplements on Voyager’s DVD so far (which differ with every release), the interview with Ken Messerol and Eddie Allen is the best, and surely worth the purchase for fans of STAR BLAZERS.
		It’s no secret that despite the dated animation techniques of the older shows, they had better stories, more imagination, and were just plain fun.

	CultTVman: Carlos Zangrando's Andromeda
		Here are some photos of my 1/700 Bandai Andromeda battleship, from the cult series Starblazers.
		This model was excelent, and required only some minor modification, to allow lights for the smaller engines.
		Unfortunately, after the 2000 Bandai re-release of the Starblazers models, this model is no longer available.

		A series being made "kid-friendly," as long as the general essence was preserved, doesn't really bother me either, and it allows it to be shown to a wider audience if necessary.
		I glanced at the Starblazers Rebirth comic strip on starblazers.com, and it seems like a whole lot of soul is going into it, possibly more than with the recent Robotech comics.
		Judging by that set of preferences, it seems like I'd be well-suited with Starblazers, especially since I hear that the video quality on the Yamato movie DVDs is terrible.

		I got twigged into the English dub and how it differs when I mentioned the show to friends, and we eventually realized it and StarBlazers were one and the same.
		The only thing I remember about StarBlazers, is that they couldn't wipe out all of the sounds they needed to get rid of to keep death out of the show.
		I remember at least one instance of a 'drone tank' screaming in pain as one of the main characters emptied a gun into into the open hatch of a turret...

		It's really hard to say since what was going on because there is not a lot of emphasis placed on the space battles.
		If I was in command and figured there was no hope I would launch everything I got at the basestars hoping to take some with me.
		If budget constraints was the problem then they could have Adama telling his crew to "arm the nukes" and then before they are fired the Pegasus could have shown up, thus stopping him from firing them.
