Starcade Central was loaded with games and the panoramic images of such a mint collection (they were brand new of course) is sure to illicit a pavlovian response from collectors and enthusiasts alike.
Starcade contestants were presented with an array of challenges they must meet in order to compete for various prizes, culminating of course in the grand prize, which was generally a full-sized arcade game.
While watching Starcade contestant’s race for points against classic arcade machines may be a spectator competition reserved only for fans who grew up in Starcade’ s heyday, video game competition is quickly becoming a viable career route for some fast-fingered gamers on today’s console games.

We did air Starcade a few more times in Fresno, Santa Barbara and some of the smaller markets in California where we did get some decent ratings, but we could not get Starcade picked up so, back to the drawing board.
Starcade was the second TV show that they had acquired.
Starcade’s ratings went as high as a 7.8 nationally and that was good for our coverage.

 Starcade
What 'Starcaders’ most likely remember were the special theme shows.
Starcade was broadcast on WTBS on Saturday mornings at 9:00AM eastern.
Even though Starcade’s ratings were good sponsor apathy, Turner’s desire to continue trying new programming, and the overall decline in the video game market all contributed to the show’s demise.

Starcade - Get Pac-Man fever: Classic 'VideoGame Show' on DVD!
Starcade was a game show that ran for two seasons in the early '80s, where contestants competed by answering trivia questions about video games to earn the right to play the coin-ops they were best at, and then by playing the games and trying to score the most points.
You can see many of those arcade games once more in the "Game Movies" section of Starcade web site, the official web site of the series which was hosted by Mark Richards during its first year, and then veteran game show host Geoff Edwards for its second year.
At this time the Starcade website's store is selling episodes of the series on DVD, via direct sale.

 Starcade
A second pilot was produced for NBC a year later, in 1982, this time w/veteran emcee Alex Trebek at the helm; the network passed, but the Arthurs managed to strike a deal with Atlanta superstation WTBS, which picked it up at the very end of the year w/Mark Richards as host.
However, Richards' inexperience showed; he was often decried by "Starcade" fans for being "snooty" toward contestants who didn't play well, and combined w/the displeasure expressed by TBS head honcho Ted Turner at his performance, he was replaced by veteran Geoff Edwards when the show moved into syndication.
During the Edwards era, one regular feature was the "Starcade Hotline", a news update-style segment just prior to the 3rd round, showing some video game-related news, or maybe a behind-the-scenes peek at the show.

The Mike The Pod Review: Starcade!
Anyhoo, I did happen to watch "Starcade", which was a video-game based game show circa 1984 (the year, not the dystopian allegory).
"Starcade" is hilarious, from the moment the opening theme song kicks up, and you realize it's that same stammering "Blinded By The Light" keyboard lick that was an integral part of every single song in the 1970s.
Starcade, with your host Geoff Edwards, can be seen on the cable channel G4.
