Although the Starcaster was semi-hollow and had humbuckerpickups, it retained Fender's bolt-on neck design (using a somewhat trouble-prone three-bolt joint that it shared with other Fenders of the time), which may have added to its unpopularity.
Starcasters are still rare, but are worth less than some other semi-hollow guitars to collectors because of their unpopularity—although prices have been rising since the 1990s.
The original Starcaster is unrelated in design to another guitar called the "Starcaster by Fender", manufactured overseas and sold as part of a starter electric guitar package at Costco outlets starting in the early 2000s.

Yes, the poster for the new Starcaster was superimposed on a drawing of an alligator.
It's tail was the neck of the guitar, and the feet were the offset horns.
The Starcaster is not the only instrument to suffer this fate. The Montego/LTD series by Roger Rossmeisl were apparently really sweet guitars,as were the Coronado,Performer and Katana series. But alas, they weren't "Fender" enough,if you know what I mean,so they didn't sell as well as they desereved to.
01-12-2005 05:46 PM i saw a new starcaster, it looked just like a stratocaster but it had 4 pickups and it said starcaster...
no, it sayd starcaster and fender, but it was sold at costco so it was probably a copy.
strat, squier, gibson sg, gibson les paul, and voodoo...of course the gibsons make the fenders look like ****, but altogether, the only diffrence between "star" and strat is the pick ups...some rumor that the starcaster has a lot of buzzing issues, but the jackasses probably are picking to close to the neck.
The StarCaster ATIS system is installed at numerous U.S. Air Force bases, where it benefits controllers by reducing the distracting and repetitive tasks associated with manual ATIS updates, and improves controller efficiency and overall situational awareness.
The result to pilots is a clear voice broadcast, and the ability to retrieve the ATIS message at the touch of a button over ARINC’s GLOBALink air/ground network.
StarCaster technology also accepts digital text or code from industry-standard air traffic control systems, and is easily configured for individual airports.

Music Trades: Costco to test market "Starcaster by Fender" guitar packs: presenting guitar to larger audience, Fender Management hopes to expand market.
DURING THE FOURTH QUARTER, when guitar and amplifier packages bearing the "Starcaster by Fender" brandname begin appearing on the shelves of selected Costco Warehouse Clubs, Fender executives expect to receive heated phone calls from many m.i.
However, unlike other instrument manufacturers that have tried to downplay their dealing with mass merchants, Fender is making no excuses for the foray into Costco.

I think if you had won again it would have been in good taste to put it up in random name drawings on the board...after all, you can only play one guitar at a time so what's the sense in having more than one?
I too intend to pickup a Starcaster one day, if I can find one at a reasonable price.
Right now they seem to be asking/fetching more than IMO they should, based on their relative importance in the guitar world.
hey igot a fenderstarcaster for christmas and i heard that they sell them at costco........wtf is a fender doing at costco.......is it a real fender???
yeah..the fenderstarcaster is a real guitar...i cant imagine why costco would be selling them though...
yea i have a "fender" starcaster too and i dont know about it cause theyre selling them at christmas-i got it as a gift so maybe someone got it for me from there.
Graham eventually sold that Starcaster, and I used mostly borrowed guitars on A&A. When it came time to tour again, I didn't have much to play with - my back-up Mexican Tele was it, and I had unfortunately smashed my good Tele earlier in the year.
It is my prefered guitar now because it plays like a Fender that my hands are most used to, but the hollow body lets me get some sounds I couldn't wring out of the Tele.
Sammy, good choice, THOSE STARCASTERS A AHaRD TO FIND AND WHEN YOU DO FIND ONE THEY ARE NOT TOO EXPENSIVE.if i can recall i think the guy from swervedriver played those.
