Review: Starfox Assault (Gamecube)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-19)
Starfox: Assault is no exception, as the characters sound exceptionally better now than they ever have, except that it's not like they ever sounded good at all before, and you'll still want to throw things at Slippy.
In Starfox 64, these unlockable features were tied mostly to the multiplayer mode, but at the very least had most players wanting to get every last medal on the expert mode just to be able to play on foot.
Starfox Assault handles just fine, but my cries for more control over my controls (haha, a pun) fall once again on deaf ears, thus knocking a near-perfect score in that category down to 8 out of 10.

Gaming Illustrated - Starfox Adventures review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-19)
Starfox Adventures doesn't manage this, it forces you down one path and there is very little room for you to explore.
Quite obviously tagged on at the last minute to accommodate the Starfox theme, the Arwing sections would offer the smallest of children no challenge at all as you fly for approximately a minute at a time and have to fly through literally a couple of rings and that's all.
Starfox Adventures is not all bad, it is reasonably entertaining, it is just so, so simple…it deserves to be so much better as the raw materials for a good game are there.

And amongst the temples, statues, and medieval castles there are rocket snowmobiles, mines, and the occasional spaceship, but these elements are heavily in the minority and could have easily been replaced by sword and sorcery elements.

Kikizo Games: GameCube Review: Star Fox Assault
The land missions are a further step down the ladder, they lack any polish that is present in the air/space missions and while perhaps they are an attempt at bringing something a little new to the franchise they still feel stuck on to the rest of the game.
StarFox 64 was a game on primitive hardware compared to the Gamecube and yet it's cinematic presentation make it a more impressive game than this sequel made eight years later.
StarFox Assault is at it's best when you take to the skies in your trusty Arwing for an N64 style on-rails mission, unfortunately the generic ground missions greatly outnumber the air ones which will upset alot of people looking for more StarFox 64-style action.

Starfox Adventures, unlike previous Starfox games, is a third person shooter that takes place mainly on a planet inhabited by intelligent dinosaurs.
A question quickly arises as to how a planet of dinosaurs fits in with the Starfox license and the short answer is “not well.” Originally, this game was called Dinosaur Planet and had nothing to do with the Starfox license at all.

The release of "Starfox Adventures" marks the last collaboration between Nintendo and Rare (excluding, of course, GBA games).

Overall, "Starfox Adventures" is an great game that will provide you with hours of great gameplay (I think it's the longest GCN game to date, with about 25 hours of gameplay).

Review - Starfox Adventures // Gamecube /// Eurogamer
It's a sad fact, but Starfox Adventures, completed just prior to the Microsoft buy-out, will stand as the final serious collaboration between Nintendo and Rare (save for some GBA titles waiting to have their fates determined).
Fans of Starfox will enjoy seeing their favourite characters on a new adventure, and graphically there's little on the Cube which can compete.
Unfortunately, the game is so heavily weighted in favour of the third person adventure sections that you often forget that it exists at all, and the game is structured such that these flying sections are merely brief rewards for your having beaten off the latest chunk of planet and recovered another Krozoa Spirit.

In 1993 Nintendo held a StarFox Competition, in which the highest scoring players of a modified StarFox cartridge distributed by Nintendo would win.
The StarFox Competition (SFC) cartridge contained modified versions of the first two levels of Route 1 from StarFox as well as a final looping level.
The first two levels were basically shorter versions of their counterparts from StarFox, however more enemies were added to increase the scoring opportunities (more on this later).
