Asgard (Stargate) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Their beaming technology can additionally be used as a weapon (As seen in the first Episode of Season Two of Stargate: Atlantis when one of Earth's ships equipped with the beaming technology uses them to blow up Wraith ships).
Also, in the Stargate continuity, the Asgard were the aliens involved in the Roswell UFO incident (rogue scientists; namely, Loki).
The beaming technology is mostly contained on Asgard ships, however, Anubis was able to steal the technology from the Asgard by probing Thor's mind.

Alien races in the Stargate universe - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Whenever the Stargate is activated on their world, thousands of their species die from the Stargate's attempting to process their lifeforce as energy (the design of the gate is such that it seeks energy in any possible form).
Inter-galactic races include the deadly mechanical Replicators, and the all-powerful Ori, and, ironically, the most influential race of all is extinct: the Ancients.
The Kull Disruptor was eventually devised by the Tau'ri and the Tok'ra, using an Ancient healing device discovered by the Goa'uld Telchak, and is capable of bringing a Kull Warrior down in one or two shots.

The mission becomes one of planetary survival, although it is unfortunate that Ra's technology, craftmanship and the splendor of his space craft cannot be integrated into the history of the universe but needs to be destroyed.

 Event Movies -- Stargate
Out of all of the memorable moments in "Stargate", the most clever and well-executed one was the switcharoo near the end when the transporter/elevator takes James Spader and his wife away from Ra and simultaneously decapitates Ra's guard and delivers the head to him/her back on the pyramid ship.
The idea of the stargate itself was a great concept and Ra's guards looked menacing with their now-you-see-them-now-you-don't head gear.
Currently, there are four novels written by Bill McCay that expand upon the premise introduced in the Stargate movie: Rebellion, Retaliation, Retribution and Reconnaissance.

 Stargate
Stargate is a sci-fi phenomenon for the 21st Century.
Each Stargate (with the exception of Earth's) is accompanied by a DHD (Dial Home Device), a piece of alien technology that controls the Stargate (Earth has gerry-rigged its own DHD).
SG-1 learns that the Stargate system was built not by the Goa'uld but by the Ancients, a race of human-like beings who learned to ascend to a higher level of existence; they became energy beings -- powerful, but who do not interfere in the affairs of others.

COMICON.com: SDCC Stargate, Serenity, & Farscape - OH MY!
Essentially, in the "stargate" universe, there is a huge difference in power needs between dialing a gate address that is in the same galaxy as the gate you are at versus dialing a gate address that is in a different galaxy.
In the stargate universe, the "money" that you have to pay is an extreme increase in the energy level that it takes to make the gate create a wormhold to another galaxy.
The SG1 team, to my knowledge, has dialed outside their own galaxy TWO other times besides the atlantis premier (that is, dialed outside their own galaxy twice during an episode of stargate: sg1) and has actually traveled to another galaxy on a few occassion in a manner not using the stargate.

 Goa'uld
While many races in the galaxy, like the Asgard and the Ancients, developed their own technology over many thousands of years, the Goa'uld achieved their current level of technological strength by discovering or stealing the technology of other races and adapting it to their own use.
The Stargates themselves are a prime example of this; while they were created and built by the Ancients, the Goa'uld have controlled so many of the galaxy's Stargates for such a long period of time that they automatically take credit for their invention.
Discovered how to dial all Stargates in the galaxy at once.

 DVDActive - Reviews - DVD - Stargate SG-1: Vol. 30 (UK - R2)
Stargates can be found all over the universe and were once used by an age-old civilisation to enslave humans and many other races for their own benefit.
To complicate the situation further, there appears to be an alien race living on the planet – possibly using the Stargate as a means of travel.
Their only hope of getting back to Earth is to either go the long way around using human technology and taking years to return, or use the last of the reserves to jump to a nearby planet with a known inactive Stargate.

Stargates are made of the element Naquadah (sometimes transliterated from the original language as Naquada), a quartzite metal not found on Earth.
The stargate operated by the U.S. Air Force's Stargate Command (SGC) at Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center near Colorado Springs, Colo., is one of a vast number of wormhole-generating "doors" that allow for near-instantaneous intergalactic travel.
(The last symbol in a stargate sequence is always the point of origin.) When a "puddle" of energy forms from the neutrino-Naquadah interaction, a person or device can pass through the puddle to emerge from the other stargate — often on a different planet, but sometimes in deep space or in orbit of a planet.
