Farscape isn't a plot show, it's not a gadget show, it's not even an effects show.
Possibly the biggest strength of Farscape is the chemistry between the cast.
True, you'd be hard pressed to tell Andromeda and Farscape apart from a brief precis of the plot and characters, but this only illustrates that there are certain genre elements that are now classic rather than cliched.

For instance, Stark didn't know of the D'Argo/Chiana/Jool triangle (he was either on Talyn or simply absent as that developed) and he certainly didn't know Scorpius would voluntarily become a prisoner aboard Moya.
Much of what the virtual Stark stated as "fact" was rooted in trickery, so when dissecting the story, it's difficult to take too much stock in his word.
Maybe Stark, knowing how resourceful John can be, knew he would eventually beat the game - thus there was never any real danger; maybe it was all just to teach John a lesson about the way he sees people.

Stark was at first appearing to be very intelligent with his "make them think your crazy" bit.
I don't thik that the saner Stark could have worked with how the story progressed, and way to much has happened to him, for him to be able to go back to what he was.
To the stark thing, anything could have happened to him while he was away from Moya to make him the nutcase he came back as, or he could have been sulking without the need to hide his thoughts he would have just started actully seeing them without hiding them the whole time.

Zhaan emerges from several days of meditation to a surprise: Stark, an alien who spent some time with the crew last year, is back on board.
Stark was introduced in late in season one, and he seemed like an interesting fellow then.
Maybe Justin Monjo and the rest of the Farscape crew were trying to create a sense of continuity, but it doesn’t work — the arbitrary combination of an "it never happened" plot and an unrelated last-minute setup for a future episode does nothing but jerk the viewer around.

It was the beginning of the episode "...Different Destinations." Stark had just lost his lover, Zhaan, at the end of the previous episode, and when the camera first found him, he was sitting in a corner, apart from his shipmates, quietly crying.
Stark has survived everything the universe has thrown at him, and, while he may have lost portions of his sanity, he has never lost what, for lack of a better word, we'll have to call his humanity.
Stark's connection to Zhaan is clearly very deep, very important to him, and (in my opinion, anyway) very beautiful.

Her actions in this episode were beyond confusing, and the only point I could see to this whole sequence was to give Bracca a chance to show he was a stand up guy in some ways.
I'm sorry, but this really disappointed me. I think that having Stark, the REAL Stark, torturing Scorpius was such a compelling plot element in the previous episode, because it made the viewer question who's side they were really on, considering what Scorpius had done to Stark in the past.
Now, to know it wasn't really Stark, just makes it the Scarrens torturing Scorpius, and Crichton and crew does not have to deal with the conflict of battling an old friend in the effort to save Scorpius.

This time, Stark, in an innocent attempt to use the vestigial Pilots station to guide him away - is grabbed and forcibly bonded to Talyn as his "Pilot." This has the unfortunate side effect of rendering Talyns other controls useless to the rest of the crew.
Crais cuts Stark down as Talyns Pilot (there is some hinting thatduring their bonding Talyn might have confided true - and unflattering feelings about Crais to Stark, but nothing ever comes of it) Rygel vomits - off-screen thankfully - and Aeryn and BlackJohn shag each other some more.

So we’re agreed that Stark is a super character.
