For the longest, longest time I thought that Starless was on Starless and Bible Black, and yet by some unusual design the song with this lyric should be on the next album!
If Starless was on this album it would more than deserve 5 stars, and if it didnt have The Great Deciever Id appreciate it so little that I wouldnt even write a review.

Well, the rest of the album titled Starles and Bible Black does not appeal to me, and I do not see myself as being the audience for it, but that is nature of KC, a complete variety.
"Starless and Bible Black" (NOT to be confused with the song "Starless" that features that phrase in its lyrics) is overlong and slow to develop-- as improvs go, its good enough, but on record, it drags a bit.
"Starless and Bible Black" is a good album, but it was made in a hurry and it shows.

STARLESS AND BIBLE BLACK, however, is a great improvement; much earthier, starker and ballsier than its predecessor, it's a truly dark, eerie masterpiece that unnerved me totally on early listenings.
The weirdness is still there with "Starless and bible fl", which I would consider a masterpiece just for the title, even though it is the song I like less on the album: it's a long, overlong (and a little pointless in my opinion) improv.

Fripp and company are high on concept, but it’s not the kind of concept that satisfactorily weds word and music.
The title track, "Starless and Bible Black," is an instrumental unencumbered by a strained lyric.
Direction is never too obvious which makes the less random bass patterns that come a third of the way through "Starless" almost feel like a hook.

The track in question, "Fracture", is a shattering climax to a strange album, beginning with a barely audible guitar tinkling and ending with total explosiveness, with lots of violining and gonging along the way.
Starless And Bible Black, the album that contains this track, and Lark's Tongues In Aspic remain, in my opinion, King Crimson's best work.
As with many of the songs I've chosen for this mix, "Fracture" is best understood in context of the rest of the album, and best appreciated with time.

Starless and Bible Black is the second of three albums recorded by the second incarnation of King Crimson, which included Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, John Wetton and David Cross.
Generally given less attention than their other albums of this period, this is the least accessible of the three, but possibly the one that best captures what Crimson was all about.
Of the three King Crimson albums from 1973-74, this one is probably the weakest.
