Set Yourself on Fire - Stars - Song Listings
The artwork for Stars' Set Yourself on Fire is eye-catching and dramatic, like a protest painting or Keith Haring subway drawing.
The songs blend trumpet, keyboard effects, acoustic guitar, and electronic and analog percussion for an intelligent pop sound that doesn't need bells and whistles to be unique.
Stars rely instead on melody, charisma, and lyrics as sharp as any modern essayist, and it's all they need to sell the quiet grandness of Set Yourself On Fire.

It seems to me that a lot of their records have great songs but it really depends on what a person connects with first by them in terms of style for what they consider their favorite.
Songs that follow the title track are equally as head banging worthy.
I was surprised to find that I hated every song on this album, the melodies have no direction but have the same repetitious guitar patterns and simplicity of all the albums before it.

Splendid: Departments: LiveLine: Stars, Light Heavyweight, Mines
While Stars are a bit less reliant on electronic beats than their British counterparts, the comparison is still apt - both bands play sugary (but not quite twee) pop music, derived from ‘80s pop and ‘70s electronic stuff, and both Campbell and St. Etienne singer Sarah Cracknell are dynamic, entertaining frontpeople.
The band also played a few new songs, which Campbell commented would appear "on a new album as soon as we get off Le Grand Travesty", indicating that all was not well between the band and their current label.
However, these songs were as striking as the rest of their set, suggesting that whatever label is lucky enough to pick them up will have quite the gem on their hands.

Stars of Track and Field are a trio hailing from Portland, Oregon.
They lost their bass player somewhere along the way, and never really looked for a new one, so the rhythm section is pretty minimalist, with the bloops and bleeps that punctuate this record like stars through the smog complementing the soaring guitars and longing lyrics.
Fun Fact: If you find the stars of Stars of Track and Field with broken arms, don't attribute it to an athletic injury, as it might be the work of a vengeful bookie.

New Hampshire State Song: Old New Hampshire
New Hampshire has the unusual distinction of having nine state songs, with one of them being "official" and the others "honorary." This came about by legislative votes over a quarter of a century, and was finally agreed upon in the 1977 session.
The 1941 Legislature turned down this song, and the 1943 Legislature killed a bill proposed by Rep. Samuel P. Philbrook of Belmont, for a $1,500 public contest to pick a state song, with a $500 prize for the music and $300 for the words, along with $700 for a team of judges and related expenses.
Coordinator Benton officially reported that the Board had voted to give the exclusive title of the official state song to the original state song of "Old New Hampshire," and this action is officially recorded as a footnote to the law creating eight state songs, in New Hampshire's Revised Statutes Annotate.

Stars : Nightsongs - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Stars reveal an obsession with stylish '80s rock on Nightsongs; the most obvious evidence is the band's cover of the Smiths' "This Charming Man." But that doesn't mean the Montréal group's debut sounds like it's from that decade.
Even the vocals make a song about "stars on the ceiling" or words like "motherf*cking" sound innocent and respectable.
Several guest musicians and vocalists contribute to Nightsongs (including labelmate Kendall Jane Meade of Mascott), resulting in a chamber pop ensemble comprised of keyboards, horns, and strings.

Clapton went on to record a version of Cray’s song “Bad Influence” for the 1987 album “August.” Cray and Stevie Ray Vaughan led a blues-guitar renaissance through the 1980s, but Clapton, whose guitar-god credentials date back to the early ’60s, did not let the decade pass before releasing his stately “Journeyman” album.
The title track is among Cray’s more vivid songs, criticizing the war in Iraq as a reckless endeavor taking advantage of those who volunteer to serve in the military.

Plus, she was entering the marketplace in the early 1980s, a decade that ushered in the era of the music video, MTV (which went on-air in 1981), and hip-hop culture with its synthesis of dance, music and visual elements.
Because of the aesthetic and technological changes and how these stars exploited them, dance has become an integral part of the increasingly visually oriented pop game.
