Stasis (fiction) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stasis (IPA: /ˈsteɪsɪs/) is a science-fiction concept akin to suspended animation.
A stasis field is a region where a stasis process is in effect.
In Vernor Vinge's The Peace War and Marooned in Realtime, the "bobble" is a spherical stasis field which is used as a weapon, shield, storage space, and time machine.

A stasis field is an imaginary phenomenon that is often used in science fiction that slows the passage of time inside it, or stops it entirely.

 Stasis Field Theory I
Stasis theory is a natural consequence of the concept that magnetic fields form in response to the relative movement of electric fields through one another.
The contribution to the stasis vector of the moon at the centre of the earth is therefore:
The result predicted by the stasis theory is 176.6 m/s in an easterly direction measured in a frame of reference moving with the centre of the earth and fixed in direction relative to the stars.

 Stasis Theory
Stasis theory is similar to Mach's principle, but different from it in that stasis theory is a natural part of the theory of magnetism.
Stasis theory makes the bold assumption that the magnetic field is generated by the relative movement of the electric fields of the charges.
Stasis, then, is the background zero velocity of the presence of the universe at a point in space.

All living creatures within the stasis field, except the caster and any protected beings, must successfully save vs. spell or be placed in suspended animation whether they wish to be or not.
Creatures in stasis that are mentally contacted by magic or psionics while within the field do not respond, and the being contacting them is placed in stasis temporarily (awakening after 2d4 rounds) each time such contact is attempted.
The stasis can be lifted from individual creatures without harm and without releasing other creatures under the same stasis by casting temporal reinstatement (the reverse of the 9th-level wizard spell temporal stasis) or the reverse of this spell.

Stasis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In medicine, stasis means the state, in which the normal flow of a body liquid stops, for example the flow of blood through vessels or of intestinal contents through the digestive tract.
In science fiction, the concept of stasis implies an artificial pause that stops all physical and chemical processes, including those of life; they resume as if uninterrupted as soon as the stasis is ended.
In music, it is a technique or form used in minimalist music, and also any other style that may use slow musical development.

 Stasis Field Generator
The generator has a built-in timer that will automatically drop the field at a preset external time (anywhere from 5 minutes to billions of years) — the internal passage of time is measured in fractions of a second.
Placing a working stasis field generator within another stasis field generator will cause both to shut down, though this can take anywhere from an instant to several hours.
Values are per cubic meter of the internal volume of the field and include the generator and the required mesh frame.

Whereas suspendedanimation usually refers to a greatly reduced state of life processes, stasis implies a complete cessation of these processes, which can be easily restarted or which restart spontaneously when stasis is removed.Depending on the work, stasis has otherproperties useful to science fiction story lines.
The noted science fiction author Larry Niven used the concept of stasisfields and stasis boxes to a great extent in a direct or indirect fashion all through his many novels and short stories set inthe Known Space series.

The Gravity Engines, Stasis Field Generators and the Refrigerator Laser are all in the smaller sphere that sits in the middle of the deck.
They had a device, a stasis field that forms invulnerable protection and freezes time within; we have never been able to understand the principle and copies do not work, but we have found them occasionally, and they can be deactivated.

Units trapped in a stasis field can neither move nor attack, and are completely immune to the effects of damage and special abilities.
Stasis Fields can be used for a wide variety of uses, both offensive and defensive, but it is a relatively long lasting effect so be careful when selecting your targets.
One of the best defensive uses of Stasis Field is to use it on High Templar or Dark Archons during their Energy recharge period (usually just after using a special ability).

A stasis field is inherently unstable and only exists for a fraction of a second.
The ultimate disasters are to have critical components fail during hyperspace entry exit (converter explosion, reactor explosion, stasis field malfunction) or to re-enter real-space in the path of a sun, planet, ship, or to cross the path of a fl hole throat in hyperspace.
