Three of the crowns, not seen in public since the 1830s, were given to the Queen last year after they were saved from being exported to America by the Brunei royal family.
The frame of the crown was given to the present Queen, along with the frames of the Imperial State Crown of George I (1715) and the Coronation Crown of Queen Adelaide (1831), by Prince Jefri Bolkiah, brother of the Sultan of Brunei, after he bought the London jewellers Asprey last year for £243 million.

  Crown (headgear) Summary
Crowns, often in the form of wreaths, have been awarded to victors in war or contests where the honored hero is identified with a divine patron of the contest or with a warrior god.
A crown is a symbolic form of headgear worn by a monarch or by a god, for whom the crown is traditionally one of the symbols of power and legitimacy (See Regalia for a broader treatment).
Such costume crowns may be worn by actors portraying a monarch, people at costume parties, or ritual "monarchs" such as the king of a Carnival krewe, or the person who found the trinket in a king cake.

 The Crown at AllExperts
The Crown is a term which is used to separate the government authority and property of the state in a kingdom from any personal influence and private assets held by the current Monarch.
Crown servants may not sit as Members of Parliament and this is used as a way of allowing MPs to retire before their time—they are awarded a sinecure job which is that of a Crown Servant and thus disbarred as an MP (see resignation from the British House of Commons).
In practice, in the vast majority of cases, the powers of the Crown outside the United Kingdom are not exercised by the Monarch directly, but rather by a Governor-General, Governor, or Lieutenant Governor (as the case may be), on the advice of the ministers of the appropriate local (federal/national, state or provincial) government.
