  State Library of New South Wales - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The State Library of New South Wales is a large public library owned by the state of New South Wales.
It started as Australian Subscription Library in 1826 and then in 1869 was taken over by the NSW Government and became the Sydney Free Public Library.
In 1895 it was renamed as the Public Library of NSW and in again in 1975 to the State Library of New South Wales.

The State Library of New South Wales, in its Mitchell and Dixson Libraries, holds the most comprehensive collection of books, manuscripts, maps, and pictures by and relating to William Bligh in the world.
Bligh's personal papers - his logbooks and journals, letters, commissions, maps, portrait, telescope - and those of his wife, Elizabeth, were acquired throughout the twentieth century from a number of Bligh's descendants beginning in 1902 with a gift from his grandson, William Russell Bligh, which included the Bounty logbook and journal, 1787-1789.
The Library acquires all published books, in any language, relating to William Bligh, the Bounty mutiny, and Bligh's governorship of New South Wales, 1806-1808.

 Mutiny on the HMS Bounty: Bligh, Christian, Pitcairn, Norfolk
In the year 1787, Lieutenant William Bligh, a young British Naval Officer having most recently served as sailing master to Captain James Cook on his voyages to the South Pacific, was commissioned by Sir Joseph Banks and the British Admiralty, to undertake a voyage in a small ship, HMS Bounty.
The goal of the voyage was to obtain a large number of breadfruit plantings to be taken to the Caribbean where they would be transplanted to provide food for the slaves in those colonies.
The relic is currently on display at the State Library of New South Wales, in Australia.

Matthew Flinders, 1774-1814, was amongst the most accomplished navigators and chartmakers of any age.
In 1798 he sailed south from Sydney in the sloop Norfolk, passed through Bass Strait and circumnavigated Van Diemens Land (Tasmania), thus proving it to be an island.
From 1801 to 1803 he circumnavigated mainland Australia in HMS Investigator, a voyage which would forever link him with this country.

State Libraries may only let you read the books in the library but you may be able to take them home if you push them a bit.
In Tasmania we have just been hit with a fee of about $12 to anyone borrowing interstate through their local Library which is a bit of a bummer for anyone not living on the North Island.
To borrow from the TAFE in Tasmania you may need to find a student there to help you out as they are very 'closed' to the general public.
