Carrollton was selected, and Ingram became president of the new West Georgia College, which opened its doors in the fall of 1933 on the campus of the former Fourth District school.
In 1937 West Georgia College, with support from the Julius Rosenwald Fund, launched an experimental rural education project that continued for almost a decade and attracted national media attention.
During the 1950s West Georgia College attained worldwide prominence with its College in the Country, a program of adult education aimed at the many adults who, because of the depression, had been unable to continue their education.

Attorney General John Chattin, of the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee, said at the recent panel discussion that he was in favor of West Georgia keeping the Braves as its mascot.
Murphy stated that if the mascot were changed there would be no extra costs for stationary, letterheads, uniforms and helmets because they would continue to use the old ones until it was time to order more.
Miller invited a Native American from the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee to express his views on the situation and Attorney General John Chattin was in favor of UWG keeping their mascot.

For the PSC to issue the certificate at the request of the employing school system, the applicant must have passed (or exempted) Praxis I and the appropriate Praxis II (content field test).
