According to the Nashville Banner of April 16, 1933, the mockingbird, Mimus polyglottos, was selected on April 11, 1933, as state bird of Tennessee in an election conducted by the Tennessee Ornithological Society.
The state commercial fish is the channel catfish, Ictalurus lacustris, which was also designated by Public Chapter 489 as enacted by the 95th General Assembly.
By House Joint Resolution 156, the 87th General Assembly adopted the raccoon as Tennessee’s wild animal.

 Wisconsin State Wildlife Policy: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
The legal title to any wild animal, carcass or part, taken or possessed in violation of this chapter, remains in the state; and the title to any wild animal, or carcass or part, lawfully acquired, upon violation in possession, use, giving, sale, barter or transportation shall revert to the state.
The states must also assume responsibility for conserving these wild animals and plants and restricting the taking, possession, transportation, processing or sale of endangered or threatened wild animals and plants within their jurisdictions to assure their continued survival and propagation for the aesthetic, recreational and scientific purposes of future generations.
Wild animals and plants shall be deemed approaching state-wide extirpation if the Department determines, based upon the best scientific and commercial data available to it, after consultation with other state game directors, federal agencies and interested persons and organizations, that the continued existence of such wild animals and plants is in jeopardy.

The virus is present primarily in the saliva, brain tissue and spinal fluid of a rabid animal.
In wild animal species, rabies is more common in bats, skunks, raccoons and foxes, but the disease also has been found in deer and in large rodents, such as woodchucks.
If an animal suspected of having rabies cannot be observed or tested, or if it tests positive for rabies, treatment of the individual with rabies immune globulin and the vaccine series must begin immediately.

CWAPC believes that stronger state laws are desperately needed to address and prevent the tragic incidents that surround the issue of keeping dangerous wild animals as pets.
Animal control facilities, animal shelters, zoos, licensed fish and wildlife facilities, circuses, and certain educational exhibitors are exempt from the possession and permit requirements of this bill.
Persons possessing a dangerous wild animal prior to the effective date of the act would be allowed to keep the animal if an annual permit is obtained and the possessors comply with public safety and health requirements and animal care requirements.

Wild animals that are normally out only at night may be seen during the day, approaching humans and domestic pets that they ordinarily would avoid.
Unvaccinated pets or livestock that have had contact with a known or suspect rabid animal must be euthanized to avoid the risk of coming down with rabies, or placed in strict isolation from humans and other animals for a period of six months, until it is certain that the animal is free of rabies.
Wild animals will also attack and bite when defending their young, which may be nearby but not visible.

Director means the animal control officer, animal control director, or person possessing similar authority within a local authority whose duties include implementing laws concerning rabies, tags, stray animals, Article 3 of this Chapter, and other laws concerning animals wild and domestic.
No resident of this State may own, possess, or have custody of any wild animal in this State, unless that person obtains a permit from the director of the local authority where the animal is located or is exempted from obtaining such a permit under G.S. 19A-53(a).
Any wild animal owned, possessed, or in the custody of any person convicted of a violation shall be forfeited to the local authority in which the violation occurred.
