Topic: Static line

Comparison of Static Line and AFF as a method to learn to skydive.
The Static line system is the more traditional way of learning to skydive, it is not uncommon for students to take 30-50 jumps to complete the static line system.
Jumping solo from the beginning, most static line students spread their learning over a longer period of time due to the number of jumps required.
Due to the nature of the static line system, the initial jumps are made from a lower altitude with automatic deployment of the canopy.

BASE-Jumping Forums - static line jumps
Static line deployments, which have (virtually) infinite snatch force, create maximum deformation (via center cell strippage) of the canopy during deployment.
If the amount of force required to break the static line is too great (or if the PCA person holds holds onto the p/c too hard) then this can effect the opening of the canopy in regards to both heading and cell pressurization.
The type of static line used (or the person used to a PCA) is therefore critical to the opening.
