Crass - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Using such deliberately mixed messages was also part of Crass' strategy of presenting themselves as a "barrage of contradictions", which also included using loud, aggressive music to promote a pacifist message, and was in part a reference to their own Dadaist and performance art backgrounds.
The philosophical and aesthetic influence of Crass on numerous punk bands from the 1980s cannot be overstated, even if few bands mimicked their later more free-form musical style (as on Yes Sir, I Will and their final recording, 10 Notes on a Summer's Day).
A later pressing of the album on Crass Records restored the missing track.

 Crass Music and Discussion
But my favorite CD is the stations of the crass.
crass were true to their meanings of punk and society and that's why they fucking rock.
Crass is basically a band of anarchists who sing about how much they hate their country.

 Prindle Record Reviews - Crass
I've heard that Crass weren't very good live, but the stuff I heard here was excellent--they played "Big A, Little A," "Major General Despair," and a few other Crass songs, plus some of their own.
I think that the reason Crass released this is because initially it was a shitty bootleg that asshole rip-off merchants were charging ridiculously inflated amounts of money for, and getting away with it.
Crass as a whole are the successors of the punk movement.

 TrouserPress.com :: Crass
Stations of the Crass is even harder going — three studio sides and a live side containing a full seventeen numbers.
Almost in spite of the oppressive, relentless punk bluster, Crass often wrote anthemic songs (like the ironic "Banned from the Roxy" and "Do They Owe Us a Living?" from Five Thousand), but over the course of this album (all of the studio material was cut in one day!), they blur into white noise.
Lords of English punk's extreme left, the Essex-based Crass didn't just sing about anarchy in the UK — they did something about it.

 SOUTHERN crass
Love Songs collects the lyrics and poems of anarchist band Crass; a band which, though largely bypassed by the mainstream music business, sold over a million records from its own staunchly independent label, and inspired a massive underground following from 1977 – 1984.
Love Songs, published in March 2004, is the definitive and official anthology of Crass, collecting the lyrics of every song they ever wrote (all 82), plus further shock slogans and mindless token tantrums of the collective.
And although many will remember the Crass sound as being ’unlistenable cacophony’ and their lyrics as ’shock slogans and mindless token tantrums’ (copyright: The Sun), listen to these records now and what you hear may surprise you, as what went on the studio was actually quite revolutionary in more than just the political sense.

 Crass biography @ Tartareandesire.com
Crass was born in late 1976 nearby Essex, England as he brittlest and most hard-line radical of the first wave of British punk bands, Crass issued a blitz of records that were ruthless in both their unrelenting sociopolitical screeds and their amelodic crash of noise.
Like few other rock bands before or since, Crass took rock-as-agent-of-social-and-political-change seriously, and not just in their music.
Crass always intended to disband in 1984, and true to their ideals as always, they did exactly that when that year came around.

 Experimental Jetset: Stations of Tourettes
Most of the buttons were black and white (referring to the typical Crass aesthetics).
So we took some typical Crass song titles, and modified them in such a way that they also referred to the context of Tourette's.
Since the overall theme of the festival seemed to revolve around the idea of tributes (to people as diverse as Yves Klein, Wyndham Lewis, etc.) we decided to do our own tribute, to classic English anarcho-punk band Crass.

I found the lack of Crass reviews to be quite shocking, and I ALMOST reviewed "Feeding of the 5000" to make up for it.
Because you can be assured that no members of Crass were born to play music, but their music doesn't sound the least bit easy.
Crass is not my favorite band, but they are good.

Stations of the Crass by Crass
"They said that we were trash/Well the name is Crass, not Clash." So goes the opening of the coruscating "White Punks on Hope," and with Stations Crass takes things to an even more vicious level than on Feeding.
Crass : Albums : Stations of the Crass : Summary
The opening yelps and screams from Ignorant on "Mother Earth" over a slow-building burn show that there was already much more to Crass than simple crash and bash punk, and with the rest of the album the collective moves between full-on assault and an ever increasing agit-snarl experimentation.

 Crass
Also in 1986, the compilation album Best Before 1984 was released, featuring 20 of Crass's previously released singles.
Crass was formed in 1978 by drummer Penny Rimbaud and singer Steve Ignorant at Penny's farmhouse in North Weald, Essex, which was in fact a large, open commune of about a dozen like-minded individuals.
Crass Records were characterized by Do-It-Yourself artwork, photocopied sleeves which doubled as anarchist propaganda, and a unique cataloguing system which involved a coundown to 1984, a year of clear symbolic significance because of its Orwellian origins.

Amazon.com: Music: Stations of the Crass
Though I largely don't agree with Crass' anarchist stance, they are intelligent, pointed, angry (and highly blasphemous) manifestos that take direct aim at Thatcher's England, the state of the punk scene (Punk Is Dead is spot-on lyrically), and every political institution you can think of.
I love crass but there is only one thing wrong with stations; the b:s tracks that are saposed to pass for music.
Crass doesn't take kindly to "sell-outs." Although that may seem to be an overused, possibly obselete term these days, I have noticed that sell outs DO exist.

Amazon.com: So You'd Like to... be a CRASS punk
I suggest acquiring all of CRASS's work but if you only start off with 'The Feeding of the 5000' then continue with the second album 'Stations of the Crass'.
CRASS (C.R.A.S.S) started the whole association of anarchism with punk rock and used there music to expose the violence and greed of government on a whole and specifically towards the Thatcher government.
By far the most under rated and unapreciated side of experimental CRASS work was 'Ten Notes on a Summer's Day'.

Yeah, she was "raised Catholic." Presumably then, even a collapsed Catholic like her has enough passing familiarity with the Stations of the Cross to pay the subject at least a modicum of respect.
Maybe then I would take her possible concerns about the movie not "energizing one to follow the Gospel" seriously, if I thought she actually had those concerns.
