  Probability Survey Overview
Statistical survey methods are very efficient because they require sampling relatively few locations to make valid scientific statements about the condition of large areas (e.g., all wadeable streams within an EPA Region).
Survey sampling is intended to characterize the entire population of interest; therefore, all members of the target population must have a known chance of being included in the sample.
When the survey design is a simple random sample, the percentage is calculated simply as the number of respondents who plan to vote for the candidate divided by the total number of respondents and multiplied by 100 to convert to a percentage.

Statistical survey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Surveys of human populations and institutions are common in political polling and government, health, social science and marketing research.
Longitudinal surveys where the sample from the initial survey is recontacted at a later date to be asked the same questions.
Although the chosen survey individuals are often a random sample, the respondents are usually self-selected, and therefore a non-probability samples from which the characteristics of the population sampled cannot be inferred.

Statistical surveys are used to collect quantitative information in many fields including political polling and government, health, social science and marketing research.
For the housing unit surveys conducted by the Bureau of the Census, a demographic approach is used to estimate the degree of coverage error.
For economic surveys, where the population distribution of the variable to be estimated is usually extremely skewed, some measure of size is often used in the sample design as either a stratification variable or for sampling with probability proportional to size.

 TakeSurvey: Top Survey FAQ
A statistical survey is designed to represent the all members of the association or a particular target population.
Surveys can be designed in various ways to achieve specialized goals, but a simple random survey of members can reliably reflect the views of the general population.
For a statistical survey to be valid, a response rate of approximately 60 percent is required.

The Federal Trade Commission today released a statistical survey of fraud in the United States that shows that nearly 25 million adults – 11.2 percent of the adult population – were victims of fraud during the year studied.
The survey of 2,500 randomly chosen consumers shows that consumers with high levels of debt were more likely to be victims of fraud.
According to the survey, consumers between the ages of 25 and 44 are most likely to be fraud victims.

Statistical Policy Working Paper 17 - Survey Coverage
The purpose of this report is to heighten the awareness of survey planners and data users regarding the existence and effects of coverage error, and to provide survey researchers with information to evaluate the trade-offs between coverage error and survey costs.
For a one-time survey, when it is desirable to obtain data for a specific point in time, this fluctuation is not usually critical, assuming the frame represents the near truth relative to the time of interest.
These surveys are commodity surveys, and, for the most part, the population of interest is all producers of the particular commodities covered by the survey.

Statistics is the numerical information which tabulate the data submitted by the respondents and so, in order to carry out statistical survey efficiently, and to ensure the accuracy of the statistics obtained, it is one of the important factors to reduce the reporting burdens.
Also, it is equally important for developed countries to improve statistics that are necessary for their social and economic development to actively support developing countries to enhance their statistical capabilities.
With regard to statistical surveys for which the sampling error cannot be estimated theoretically, the group will verify the extent of validity of sampling error estimated by a re-sampling method such as the boost strap method, and examine the extent of practicality.
