Topic: Statue Square

Statue Square - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Statue Square is an ideal rendezvous for Filipino maids in Hong Kong on Sundays.
It derives its name from the fact that it originally contained the statues of Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Edward VII and Sir Thomas Jackson, the chief manager of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation between 1876 and 1902.
These statues, together with the two bronze lions in front of the HSBC building, were displaced to Japan to be melted by the occupying Japanese during World War II.

Trafalgar Square - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Trafalgar Square is a square in central London that commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar (1805), a British naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars.
Nelson's Column is in the centre of the square, surrounded by fountains designed by Lutyens in 1939 and four huge bronze lions sculpted by Sir Edwin Landseer; the metal used is said to have been recycled from the cannon of the French fleet.
At the corners of the square are four plinths; the two northern ones were intended to be used for equestrian statues, and thus are wider than the two southern.

Blogging... Walk The Talk: Making a Mess of Statue Square
Statue Square has been the centre of gravity of Hong Kong for almost 120 years.
The prestige of what was once called Royal Square was greatly enhanced by its neighbors - "the Bank" to the South, Jardine's Prince's Building to the West, the Harbour and the Hong Kong Club to the North, and to the East the Supreme Court Building representing the honour of Her Majesty's Government.
Until the war of course, when statues of Queen Victoria and her successor monarchs were hauled off to Japan to be melted down as scrap metal for ammunition.
