Status quo is a Latin term meaning the present current, existing state of affairs.
The concept of status quo comes from the diplomatic term status quo ante bellum, meaning "as it was before war," referring to the withdrawal of enemy troops and restoration of power to prewar leadership.
Arguing to preserve the status quo is usually done in the context of opposing a large, often radical change.

Status Quo is a UK rock band founded by bassist Alan Lancaster and guitarist Francis Rossi in 1962.
Status Quo has often been characterized, perhaps unfairly, as producing very simple songs, always in the same format: 4/4 rhythm, three chord structure.
In September 2005 a contestant on the long-running BBC television quiz programme "Mastermind" chose Status Quo as his specialist subject.

Criticism of the band has always been that the singles were all alike which to me was logical.

With two guitars and an organ plugged into one Vox AC30 amp that had been bought for Lancaster as a Christmas present, they start to practise, Alan is soon replaced by Jess Jaworski on organ and Barry Smith joins the band on the drums.
Originally called The Scorpions, the band change their name to The Spectres and play their first gig at the Samuel Jones Sports Club in Dulwich, South London.
