 Introduction
Eventually I discovered the value of census records as a critical tool for genealogical research, and quickly discovered that this Staveley family had been residents of Aysgarth village in North Yorkshire at the turn of the 19th century.
I knew nothing of the Staveley family origins prior to inhabiting Aysgarth, and had only a brief history of their subsequent life in Manchester after the 1830's.
Staveleys were known to have inhabited regions in Lincolnshire, Cheshire, and Lancashire, and although this is not a terribly common family name, it is an ancient one, and the task of untangling the branches of this family tree seemed overwhelming...especially as variations in spellings of the Staveley name began to surface!
