The Steadicam Workshop Solution authorized by Tiffen instructed by Peter Abraham
Over the last 30 years, Steadicam has become both noun and verb in the language of film and video and is integral to the production of most movies, television shows, documentaries and reality programs.
There are thousands of Steadicams in use worldwide, and skill with this much sought after instrument is an increasingly valuable asset.
Whether they have choosen a two-day Steadicam Flyer Workshop or the more intensive five-day Steadicam Workshop, they have taken training from highly experienced Operator/Instructors and have left the Workshop experience in possession of the skill and information that allows them to pursue a career in Steadicam.

  Steadicam
Steadicam offered television directors and cinematographers benefits that were both logistical (speed of use, streamlined labor) and aesthetic (a film-look that was deemed dynamic and high-tech).
On scenes demanding Steadicam, the Director of Photography, the 'A' camera operator, the focus-puller, and one or more assistants would merely stand aside as a single Steadicam operator executed lengthy moves that could previously consume inordinate amounts of program time.
Steadicam EFP, by contrast, allowed tabloid and reality shows to move "showtime glitz" quickly into and out of their fragmentary exposes and "recreations." As channel competition heated up, and production of syndicated programming increased, Steadicam was but one stylistic tactic used to push a show above the "clutter" of look-alike programming.

Designed by Garrett Brown, the inventor of the original Steadicam Jr, the Merlin is the next generation hand held Steadicam system.
The Steadicam Merlin is half the weight and four times as stable as the JR.
The Merlin is not only stable, it is also an inherently graceful way to hold a camera —not only for big moves and running around, but also for those subtle, imperceptible and elegant displacements of the lens that cannot be achieved any other way.

 Steadicam FAQ
The Steadicam is a camera stabilization device that, in the hands of a skilled operator, combines the image steadiness of a dolly with the freedom of movement of a hand-held shot.
The Steadicam works in three ways: 1) it isolates the camera from all but the largest movements of the operator, 2) it spreads the mass of the camera to increase resistance to rotation, and 3) it brings the **center of gravity** outside of the camera to where the operator can manipulate it directly.
In the Steadicam, the camera attaches to one end of an adjustable post; on the other end of the post are a battery, a small monitor, and the electronics for whatever accessories are on the Steadicam.

 Howstuffworks "How Steadicams Work"
To the typical amateur cameraman, this is an inevitable part of handheld video or film: When you move while you're shooting, the camera seems to pick up your body's every jolt and shake no matter how hard you try to keep it level.
But in professional movies and television shows you see lots of long, moving handheld shots that have no jolts and shakes at all.
Since their introduction in 1976, Steadicams have become one of the most important tools in the filmmaking world -- they have expanded the cinematographer's palette considerably.

The guy who invented the Steadicam?”  I couldn’t believe it.  So I asked — and saw the Oscar, the Emmys and even more awards — and started to learn that Brown was much more than a just funny ad guy.
Needless to say, the Steadicam has been a big hit in the movie industry — it won Brown an Oscar — and in television.
During that time, Brown has amassed 50 patents worldwide for camera devices, including the Steadicam JR for camcorders; the Skycam, which flies on wires over sporting events; The Divecam (an Emmy for that one); the SuperFlyCam for airplanes; and the Mobycam, an underwater camera that follows swimmers at the Olympics.
