Their debut album, released in June 1998, was recorded at the Sound City studios with Rubin and Dave Sardy acting as producers.
The band's heady fusion of alternative metal and programmed beats was augmented by subtle Eastern European influences, earning them comparisons to contemporary metal bands such as Korn and the Deftones.
Rick Rubin, who, in September 1997, made the band the first new act on his American Recordings label, spotted them playing at Hollywood's Viper Room.

The album is flush with first-rate romantic lyricism, as further evidenced in "Steal Your Love": "I don’t want drugs and I don’t want your money / I just wanna steal your love / I don’t need a knife, I don’t need a gun / I know how to steal your love."
The 48-year-old and her scattershot label experiences were hardly an issue when she won sweeping critical raves for Car Wheels, nor did they surface when the album garnered her a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album in 1999, and a nomination for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance that same year.
Add to that creative-control disputes with American and RCA, which circumvented the release of her material altogether, and Williams’ career appears to be as stymied by label difficulties as it is riddled with all-around success.

While SOAD are currently in the process of working on their next album, (due out in a year or two according to Malakian) they will be releasing a 16-track compellation album of unreleased music called "Steal This Album".
Rick Rubin and System's guitarist Daron Malakian produced the album appropriately titled "Steal This Album," and mixed in Los Angeles by Andy Wallace (who mixed the Toxicity album).
Their sophomore album, "Toxicity" has now sold in excess of 4-million copies worldwide and they have inspired hundreds of bands with their original "schizophrenic" sound.

"Shimmy" is the oddball of the album- somehow, and I don't know why, I manage to like this song, being about parental carelessness, waste of life, and a whole sh*tload of things, attacking practically every friggin' issue in the album- its weird, fast, and odd, but you kids did a good job on it.
I can't deny that the album first track, "Prison Song," is a successful teeny-bopper, sounding cool, heavy, and still likable to this day, even though its a change of style.

Toxicity took things considerably more further than their eponymous debut album, possessing more of a grandiose feel, the band completely unafraid to shed their punk roots a bit more and go for the really soaring, transcendent melodies.
The songs that didn't make it onto Toxicity are as good as, if not better than the songs that did." Indeed, the band do give these songs the full album treatment, even going as far as employing Andy Wallace to add his trademark polish to the mix.

Snakebite is a unique album in the Whitesnake collection as it is really only half a Whitesnake album.
The last four songs on the album were originally recorded in 1977 for David Coverdale's second solo album, Northwinds, which followed his departure from Deep Purple.
In Steal Away, the mood is set with some great slide guitar; one can only imagine the left corner of Coverdale's mouth raise while trying to hold back a smile, as he sings the first few lines; just then, the progression of the song takes hold and you are captivated, or bitten, if you will.

This album shows how I expect Kim and Reggie might arrange their set list when appearing live; it is on the whole a lot more entertaining.
The second album, Rock of Ages, is a little bit lighter to listen to, moves away from the depressed Negro slave theme of Steal Away, and is a lot more entertaining.

Since the album was being distributed for free and the work itself can't serve as a substitute for 'American Idiot' (hence, Warner's profit line), the order is pointless and robs us of a great piece of work, arguably better than Green Day's own effort.
And while 'The Grey Album' is important, it's a piece of hip-hop, using selective edits and looping to manipulate samples.
Based heavily in the genre of "bastard pop" or "mash-ups", the album represented a growing movement that has existed for a while, at least in concept.

Steal This Album music : ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
''Steal This Album'' echoes its structures and themes: ''I-E-A-I-A-I-O'' is a warp-speed rant in the mold of ''Psycho''; ''Boom!'' is a political powerhouse with spoken interludes a la ''Prison Song''; and ''Ego Brain'' infuses the band's signature soft-LOUD-soft dynamics with soaring harmonies, as ''Chop Suey!'' did.
Despite its individual gems, ''Steal This Album,'' as a unit, relies too heavily on blunt political diatribes and musical gimmicks, and System's ferocity doesn't sound as fresh as it did last year.
Many of ''Album's'' tunes work as vibrant stand-alone compositions, which not only makes this an impressive disc but also makes ''Toxicity'' seem all the more masterful: Even the rejects sound pretty damn great.

Let's go ahead and get this part over with: Yes, this is the debut album by the guy who, along with the titular blue dog, used to host Blue's Clues, the insanely popular children's show on Nickelodeon.
But while Drozd and Fridmann's influence is undeniable from the start (they're clearly responsible for a good deal of the album's sparkle), Burns' lyrical insight and gift for writing and arranging endlessly listenable pop songs consistently manages to steal the show.
And yes, Steve Drozd of The Flaming Lips backs him on this album, with the bulk of production duties held down by Lips producer Dave Fridmann.
