Stefan Żeromski (pronounce: Image:Ltspkr.png ['stεfan ʒε'romski]) (1864-1925) was a Polish novelist.

His father, Wincenty Zeromski, participated in the January Rising, after which he lost his estate His mother was Jozefa nee Katerla.
He was the initiator of the Academy of Literature project and established The Guardians of Polish Writing and the Polish division of the PEN-Club (1924); he was the co-founder and the first chairman of the Union of Polish Professional Writers.
His funeral on 23 November 1925 became a national manifestation despite of protestations of his foes; the writer was buried at the Evangelical Reformed Cemetery in Warsaw.

Stefan Zeromski (1864-1926) was one Poland's foremost writers, shortlisted for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1926.
The writer was fascinated by the art and culture of the Polish highlanders and therefore the cottage was designed by Jan Koszyc-Witkiewicz in the Zakopane style.
Upon zeromski's death in 1926, his widow presented the cottage for museum purposes, and the writer's museum opened two years later.

Zeromski ist so was wie der polnische Thomas Mann.
Stefan Zeromski gilt auch als der große Erotiker in der polnischen Literatur, und tatsächlich gibt es in “Vorfrühling” eine sehr nette Liebesgeschichte über vier Ecken.

After completing my reading of the Faithful River by Zeromski I am reminded of "The English Patient", the movie starring Ralph Fiennes from several years back.
Zeromski does a magnificant job of setting the ambience for this work and the reader is transported into the mind of the Soldier as he struggles to live.
This book is exremely well transalated by Bill Johnston and is a pleasure for any one to read.

There's good movie by Andrzej Wajda "Ashes"(1965) based on the novel by Stefan Zeromski about Polish soldiers in Spanish campaign.
This film (and book!) was very controversial-it shows the whole subject in totally diffrent way that it used to be (killing civilians and priests during Sarragossa assault etc.)
