 | | On this solo release, the artist melds original compositions with works by Thelonious Monk, Steve Lacy and of course the title track which is a Cecil Taylor composition. |
 | | No doubt, Petrin possesses acute rhythmical sensibilities, evidenced by his interesting reconstructions of Monk’s “Four in One,” and “Misterioso.” Yet, with the latter, poet Stefano Benni recites verse atop Petrin’s solo piano work, but if you don’t understand Italian, it is all reduced to being rather inconsequential at best. |
 | | One of the surprises here is Petrin’s delicately fabricated balladry on singer Tom Wait’s piece titled “Steel Away.” As this album highlights Petrin’s multifarious craft where he interconnects high-octane stride motifs, with a heavy-handed attack, amid dashing arpeggios and more. |
