Stephen Boyd (July 4, 1931 - June 2, 1977) - was an Irish actor, born in Glengormley in Northern Ireland, who starred in over fifty films.
Boyd also appeared in John Huston's Biblical epic The Bible...in the Beginning (1966) and was top-billed in another costumed epic Genghis Khan (1965), filmed in Yugoslavia.
On his passing, Stephen Boyd was interred in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Chatsworth, California.

Boyd was married twice, the first time in 1958 to Italian-born MCA executive Mariella di Sarzana, but that only lasted (officially) during the filming of "Ben Hur";.
Liz Mills followed Boyd to the USA in the late 1950s and was his personal assistant and secretary for years before they married, about ten months before his death on June 2, 1977, in Tarzana, California, from a massive heart attack while playing golf--one of his favorite pastimes--at the Porter Valley Country Club.

Although the Lions released Boyd this spring, it wasn't because he had lost his ability as a middle linebacker.
Former Lions coach Wayne Fontes, who selected Boyd in the fifth round of the 1995 NFL draft as the eventual successor to Chris Spielman, was on hand for Boyd's retirement ceremonies.
In his seven seasons, Boyd played in 86 games, was selected to the Pro Bowl as the first alternate in 1998 and was voted to the Pro Bowl squad in both of the next two seasons.

He began his acting career with the Group Theatre and went on to Hollywood to star in some of the greatest films of the 1950’s and 1960’s, including Ben Hur, Cleopatra and Fantasy Voyage.
June 2002 marked the 25th anniversary of Stephen’s death and to commemorate this Belfast Film Festival held a Stephen Boyd Night featuring Ben Hur and a seminar on Stephen Boyd the following day.
