Stephen Root (born November 17, 1951 in Sarasota, Florida) is an American comedy actor.
Root also portrayed NASA chief flight controller Chris Kraft in the miniseries From the Earth to the Moon.
He is also the voice of Commander Chode on the Sci Fi Channel's Tripping the Rift.

Then again, you wouldn't recognize Stephen Root in many of his most famous roles, because he's often buried under a few layers of latex or prosthetics or both.
Again in Office Space, Root proved to be the funniest part of every scene he was in (though he got very stiff competition from Gary Cole, another underrated chameleon, who played Bill "That Would Be Great" Lumbergh, the office manager).
But Root's shape-shifting shouldn't trump his scene-stealing and, if anything, he should be lauded for his uncanny ability to disappear into memorable roles, rather than be penalized for it.

Though best known for his work as radio station bigwig Jimmy James on the television series News Radio, Stephen Root is one of the busier character actors at work today, and a familiar face to television and movie audiences.
Born in Sarasota, FL, on November 17, 1951, Root received a degree in acting and broadcasting from the University of Florida, and after graduating passed an audition to join the touring company of the National Shakespeare Company.
Root also began doing voice work, speaking for Buck Strickland and Bill Dautrive on the animated series King of the Hill and the Sheriff on Buzz Lightyear of Star Command.
