Stills was contractually bound to finish the tour, which he did, but upon returning home, his wife announced she wanted a divorce and wished to move back to France.
Stills' son, Justin Stills, was badly injured at age 26 snowboarding in Tahoe in 1997; an episode of The Learning Channel's documentary series Trauma: Life in the ER featured his treatment and recovery.

In 1972, Stills began performing with a new backing unit, Manassas, which featured ex-Byrd and Flying Burrito Brother Chris Hillman; both their eponymous debut and 1973's Down the Road continued Stills' long string of chart successes.
In the summer of 1976, he planned to tour with Neil Young; however, Young was hampered with throat problems, so Stills took to the road alone, although he and Young did team for the LP Long May You Run.

The Manassas band was a change from the hard rock electric sound established by Stills in Buffalo Springfield and was one of the first bands to bring a MOR blending of country and rock to a hip audience.
Stills and band play the numbers with very little chatter between numbers, taking advantage of the German show's policy of letting bands play their numbers without interruption or editing of musical numbers.
The colors are still bright, the focus sharp, and the background projections of the band's album cover not distracting, as with some earlier MusikLaden shows that projected day-glow patterns, distracting from the bands up in front.

Stills kept himself afloat in the musical mainstream with the 1968 Super Session album with Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield, followed by a more lasting and successful David Crosby (formerly of the Byrds) and Gram Nash (then a member of the Hollies).
Still's released solo albums (Stephen Stills and Stephen Stills 2) in 1971 and 1972 and also piloted two albums with the group Manassas.
The Stephen Stills LP spawned two Top 40 singles, "Love The One Your With" and "Sit Yourself Down." In 1976, Stills and Young formed a brief duo project that produced the album Long May You Run.

Stills' excellent first solo album, STEPHEN STILLS, was released after the 1969 CROSBY, STILLS, and NASH album, the 1970 Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young DEJA VU album and release of the Ohio/Find the Cost of Freedom single.
Aside from Stills subsequent work with Manassas, and perhaps his eclectic 'Live' release in 1974, there is no finer Stephen Stills collection available, and none of these songs are available on any other Stills recording, save compilations.
And as to the idea that Stills is not the most accomplished, the nice thing is that if you want to know what CSN sounds like without the S then you can get Crosby and Nash and hear for yourself.

Stills plays many of the instruments himself, but a star-studded guest list, including Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton (who plays lead on the bluesy "Go Back Home"), and Jimi Hendrix (who solos on the rocker "Old Times Good Times").
Although if compared to his feuding amigos I would not rate Stephen Still first solo recording the best of all four, there's nothing here that could not be considered absolutely impeccable.

I must admit at the outset that this is not my favorite Stephen Stills album – that designation goes to his first solo release, Stephen Stills.
The one exception is the Crosby, Stills and Nash track "As I Come of Age," written by Stills and featuring Crosby, Stills and Nash on vocals, which comes across as the diamond in the rough on this album, presumably passed over in the singles stakes at the time, though it could have done quite well.
No doubt there are listeners out there who will rate this album as their favorite Stills solo release, but so often with an album like this, preference has more to do with what we were going through ourselves at the time than the material itself.

When Stephen Stills gets into full gospel mode, he can achieve greater sincerity than many of his sixties contemporaries.
That identity is laced with country-western feel, complicated rhythms, and his characteristic elegant guitar work.
  Stills is as clear as he can be while remaining ecumenical, and while this would certainly bother dogmatists (since he rarely names whatever deity he’s invoking), his message is certainly recognizably Christian enough for use, say, in a Catholic mass in the mid-1970s.
