		Though this isn't the best place to encounter Beck's myriad talents, SOUL MANURE accurately represents both Beck's reckless, experimental side and his traditional leanings.

		Stereopathetic Soulmanure is a 1994 album by Beck, released on Flipside Records, comprising mostly home demos, live performances, and abstract noise experiments.
		Although a lo-fi recording of a largely uncommercial nature, Stereopathetic Soulmanure is actually Beck's second official album, released, perhaps, to downplay his then-notoriety as a novelty act for his current Top 10 hit "Loser".

		With the release of Beck's eighth album Guero a couple of weeks ago, I thought it would be as a time as any to take a look back at the stripped-back blues of One Foot in the Grave and the extremely eclectic collection Stereopathetic Soul Manure.
		Both albums were released in 1994 on independent labels K and Flipside at virtually the same time as Beck's major label debut Mellow Gold, which reined in the wacky sonic junk of Stereopathetic Soul Manure, blending it into songs that fused sun-drenched folk and blues with whiteboy slacker hip-hop.
		It is also a pretty good representation of what to expect from the record as a whole; intense emotion is given plenty of room to breathe thanks to the minimalist nature of the music, with the occasional lo-fi guitar freakout just to make sure you're still paying attention.
