 ChrisW's Description of Albedo
is a "furry" comic (i.e., the main characters are anthropomorphic animals) written by Steve Gallacci.
Gallacci is a gearhead -- one of the editions of the comic, for example, contained an eight-page article (with several illustrations) describing the primary EDF armored fighting vehicle and it's many variants.
There is also an Albedo roleplaying game, put out by Chessex and illustrated by Gallacci.

Steve Gallacci - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Steven A. Gallacci (born 1955) is best known for creating and publishing Albedo Anthropomorphics, a fl and white alternative comic containing anthropomorphic (funny animal) characters, which is popular amongst members of the furry fandom.
Gallacci spent 6 years in the US Air Force as a graphics specialist, including a tour of duty in Germany.
Among some of the story lines that have appeared in Albedo are Gallacci's own "Erma Felna: EDF", a military sci-fi epic featuring some elements of political intrigue, and Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo, which first appeared in the infamously rare Albedo #2.

Steve's one of my favorite people in the world - he's helped me through a lot of rough times over the years, both through his writings and occasional conversations and correspondence.

 Fight Cast Or Evade
Many years ago, Gallacci was at a con where this kid was standing in front of his table, shifting from foot to foot, and actually whimpering with anxiety as he tried to work up the courage to ask Steve to draw for him in his art book.
Steve explains the kid annoyed him and asked for art he could not draw for someone underaged.
Steve was very professional, described the incident in details and repeated he could/would not draw the scene requested.

Steve assures me that the main reason why the book will never be reprinted is that the original negatives are long lost, and most of the original art is scattered.
I remember in '88 Steve Gallacci was selling sets of Albedo (including #2) for $300, which pretty much cleaned out his back-stock for good.
I must admit, I love Steve Gallacci's Erma stories, but their popularity just ain't what it used to be.

For whatever reason, Gallacci did not allow any of his work to be circulated as GIFs, JPEGs, etc. I thought this was unfortunate, since with its tiny circulation,
In some cases a colony's situation is hopeless, and the spacers have to do triage on a planetary scale.
Gallacci's own experience in the modern military lends authenticity to his depiction of the EDF, and as always seems to be the case, his lack of familiarity with computers makes his speculation on that score (in my opinion) more interesting and believable.

Usagi Yojimbo Dojo - History of UY
In 1984, Seattlite Steve Gallacci had formed a small self-publishing company, Thoughts and Images, and was searching for some contributers to his comic book series, Albedo Anthropomorphics.
But sometime in mid-1985, the fl-and-white explosion hit (obviously Stan and Steve did their fair share of praying for a miracle) in full-force.
While Eastman and Laird, along with all of their clones, were busy raking in the dough, Stan and Steve were just happy to finally see their back-stock of Albedo vanish and then reappear in the form of income.

It was very scarce in the late 80s, but had been spotted at various cons and sometimes at Steve Gallacci's booth for around $100-$200.
All of this chaos was due to the Black and White Explosion of 85-86-87, a time of intense speculation among collectors which drove the issue into extreme scarcity.

Today, funny animals are commonly known on the internet as furries.
The change in terminology was already evident in 1980s, and was well-established by 1990 when the newsgroup alt.fan.furry was created for "fans of funny animals, ala Steve Gallacci's book".
However, some cartoonists (and other artists) prefer the original term, either because they feel it better describes their work, or because they dislike being associated with the furry fandom.
