Steve Guppy (born March 29, 1969 in Winchester, Hampshire) is an English football (soccer) left midfielder, who currently plays for D.C. United of Major League Soccer.
Guppy comes to MLS after a long career in the United Kingdom, where he played for Wycombe Wanderers (1989-94 and 2004), Newcastle United (1994), Port Vale (1994-97), Leicester City (1997-2001 and 2004), Celtic (2001-04), Leeds United (2004), and Stoke City (2004).
Guppy has been capped for England once, on October 10, 1999 against Belgium.

I believe that the trial for Odvan and the non-trial for Guppy is strictly based on the fact that Guppy has been playing on a regular basis in 2005; whereas, Odvan's Fluminense contract expired at the end of 2004 and has not had any competitive games.
Guppy's 1 cap career for England is mainly based on England's absolute lack of a left winger at the time.
With Guppy, Van Sicklen, and probably Odvan joining the senior roster and Walker joining the developmental roster (along with Boswell and the remaining 2005 draft picks), the roster does not seem to have room for everyone - I smell a trade.
