Amazon.com: The Power of Early Speed (Elements of Handicapping): Books: Steve Klein   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Klein, like all prior authors of books on handicapping, relies on self-serving anecdotes to prove some of his hypotheses.
Klein's endeavor here was long overdue, and I hope he, or others at DRF, will decide to use this scientific and statistical method for dealing with the other elements of handicapping--speed, class, track biases, angles, and conditions.
While Klein's percentage of winners and return-on-investment calculations are adequate for the leaders at the first call, they are without merit for those that do not lead because he dumps both categories in together.
